Watch Seymour Drop In a Pickup

Re: Watch Seymour Drop In a Pickup

Definitely cool to watch a master do it... The volume seemed a little low... But very helpful..!

multimeter, I don't know exactly what he was measuring though.

I like that he keeps his pickups really close hahahaha.

Re: Watch Seymour Drop In a Pickup

It'd be nice if the telecaster one was more comprehensive like the strat and LP ones. He doesn't ACTUALLY show how to change a pickup, it is mostly just talking about the way he wired that particular tele.

Strat and LP: Great.
Tele: Needs work.

Re: Watch Seymour Drop In a Pickup

Another point: On the LP video - when he was adjusting the height of the bridge pickup - it looked to me like he just casually turned the high E pole piece a quarter turn. I gasped when I saw that! Then I realized he probably knew what he was doing - something I couldn't see myself even trying. But no comment was made about why he was doing that... just wondering - did anyone else see this?

Re: Watch Seymour Drop In a Pickup

I watched the Stratocaster install and thought it was excellant. I would have liked it even more if I could have gotten the video to go full screen and if I could have turned up the audio a little more. Very well done though. Lew

Multimeter/Ohm-meter. A multimeter measure resistance, voltage, and current. And ohm-meter measures just resistance.

He is measuring resistance to make sure that he has continuity, or a solid path. If you have a solid path then you should have low or no resistance, 0 ohms.

On a multi meter you can use the diode checker function and if you have continuity you will here a beep.

I believe he said he did it to keep the pole pieces level with the pickup cover. You adjust your pole pieces if you feel you need more volume or attack from a certain string I thought, but he made it sound cosmetic. I say experiment.

6. I appreciated the tip on re-stringing - I'm going to have to try that.

That was a very cool tip, I only watched the LP one. but it was pretty good I thought.

This is probably a really stupid question - and a bit off topic - but what if you back the screw out too far and it falls out? Is it easy to get the screw back in? Or do all the innards fall all over the place? Ignorance is NOT bliss!

Not likely. The pole piece screws are pretty long. You'ld be hitting the string long before they'ld fall out. ;)

And in the unlikely event that you did, you can just put it back in. It doesn't hold anything together.

Great idea. I enjoyed it.

+1. I've done a fair bit of soldering in my job (15 yrs as an RAF tech!), but it would have been nice to be able to get a really clear view on a larger screen. Very good tho, reminded me of my basic skills lesson years ago. Brought a wry smile to my face too, as we had to watch a US Air Force vid on "60/40 sodder", it's SOLDER doncha know?!?!?!? :laugh2:
