hi someone i know claims they found this tottally destroyed banjo bodied mandolin made by a company called waverly the tuners were rusted and destroyed it was missing a bridge the skin needed to be replaced it was missing a few hooks and the nut i replaced everything but the action was way to high even after filling the bridge for a long time i want to say the mandolin is from probably the 30s or 40s i wanted to know because this is the first time i worked on anything other than a guitar or bass and know nothing at all about these could it be that it was built without a bridge because when i tighten the strings it seems to sit at the right hight sorry i know this is kind of a weird place to post this but help is needed thank you

Re: waverly mandolin

It needs a bridge. That transfers vibration into the drum head and makes it loud/audible. Ideally the bridge saddles will be offset like the first shown here, or at minimum a straight bridge like the second image.
