Wax Potting for new Covers ?

Hello all!

I have a Trembucker cover (chrome) coming to cover up my cracked bobbin TB-4 I made a thread about.

Question:

I have heard two trains of thought on this. One is I need to re-pot the pickup, another is I can just add some wax to the top and hair dryer the cover to create a layer of wax between the two. Since the coils are already potted, option 2 makes sense to me, however, I need some opinions.

What should I be doing to make sure this baby doesn't squeal (in the bad way)? Also, because I like the look of black, I was planning on plasti-dipping the cover to suit my aesthetic as it's reversible. would doing the underside of the cover help with this as well?

Thanks in advance!

Is your worry related to the cracked bobbin itself or are you just wondering overall how you can make sure it wont squeal?

Making sure it wont squeal. The cracked bobbin issue will be taken care of by the cover.

Well I'm assuming haha

When I do mine, I just put a bit of molten wax in the cover, lift it up, and push the pickup in. I've not had to consider any issue with bobbins mind you.

EDIT: I also put some electrical tape over the top of the slugs. Can't rememeber what that's for, it's habit now.

Ok thanks! I'm going to plasti-dip the inside of the cover too so that should be sufficient. If not I rip it out and try wax I suppose!
