Waxing a pickup

I got an old SD pickup in an 85 Kramer Baretta that someone gave me. It was pretty messed up, so I put a JB in it to get it working.

I'd like to get the old pickup working but...

The pickup had sticks of wood under the frame to give it more height, and I think the wires between the coils some how got disconnected. I think I can fix that, but how do I wax it again?

Also, does this have all the parts? it has a frame, two coil bobbins, a bar magnet that straddles both coils on the bottom and a small strip that looks like a magnet that the poles come down and thread into. Is there supposed to be something on the other side too?

Also, the holes were enlarged way to much. Any tips on making those accept standard screws?

Re: Waxing a pickup

i like the pickups the way it is.. ( or buy a new duncan p/up... no hastle no fuss no hot wax.. ) recomended the antiquity...!! seriously..

do you know that 'some' p/up will got even worse@destroyed when u wax it.. ?

but what the heck... just giv it a shot.. tied ur p/up with an old guitar string and dip it in till all the bubble goes away.. make sure u use double boiling method..

p/s the p/up sure look ugly after u wax it

Re: Waxing a pickup

If you leave it in the pot too long, yeah, it will kill the tone. But 4-6 minutes should do the trick with zero to negligible effect on tone, especially if you mix in some beeswax to thin it out a bit.
