Way to go Schecter!!!

Earlier I received an e-mail from Schecter that their new catalog was up for grabs. All you have to do is answer a short questionnaire and then you download the catalog in pdf.
Here's the link: http://www.schecterguitars.com/Catalog/Default.aspx

There are all the usual suspects, doesn't seem they removed any models from their roaster but they sure ADDED some TASTY new ones, the BlackJack Slim Line Series and Hellraiser Extreme collection.

The SLS is a series meant to address the "baseball-bat" argument. These guitars (mainly C-1s but there's a limited edition for most of the favorite shapes) have thin, satin finished necks.

The rest of the specs are Set-Neck w/Ultra access joint, Mahogany body, 3-pc. Maple neck, 25.5” scale (finally, I was so bummed to see the Custom and Standard lines were 24,75"), Ebony fretboard and they come in either Blackouts AHB-1(active) or the Full Shred SH-10/ Jazz SH-2N varieties, with either Blue flame top or gloss black finishes (I'm guessing there's no actual top, just a thin veneer). Your choice of Floyd or TOM bridges.
The one thing to bum me out with these is the cheesy IMO "Hell's Gate Skull inlay in the 12th fret.

The HR Xtreme is the new flagship line.
They have neck-thru construction, what appears to be ACTUAL figured maple tops, maple/walnut necks, mahogany wings, Ebony or Maple fretboards and chrome-covered EMGs (a classy touch if I might add).

IMO with these latest additions Schecter hit a home-run, retaining all that made them an affordable, quality brand while expanding that with two higher-end lines.

Honestly, I am more partial to the SLS line even though it is the lower of the two, actually if it weren't for that inlay on the 12th fret I'd be looking which of my current guitars to ditch in favor of one of these (an impossible task as I have no more guitars that I would either be willing or make financial sense to sell...

Re: Way to go Schecter!!!

Maple fretboards are a fail.
Other than that, I've always felt like Schecter has *ALMOST* gotten it right.

Re: Way to go Schecter!!!

Personally I like them, but they're only an option, there still is plenty of both Rosewood and now more Ebony to choose from.

Apart from the inlay on the SLS, I can't see any other "almost". The only gripe I have with the Hellraiser line is perhaps its' use of EMGs, an easy enough fix though...

Re: Way to go Schecter!!!

SLS inlay = fail.

The Hellraiser Extreme looks ok, but I guess I'd have to see it in person.

The only Schecters that caught my attention were the aviation themed ones and the PTs, and those haven't been changed in forever. I feel the quality and feel is there for most Schecters I've played, but their design aesthetic just doesn't click with me unfortunately.

Cool to put in the S-1 Custom btw, I loved the Anniversary ones with beveled maple tops. No pickguard though, please.

KeeperSOS,
im sure you will be suprised to know that I agree with you.. haha :friday:

Schecter and LTD have been on the ball last few years.. I WISH to heck Id have been able to score a guitar as good as these for an affordable price when I started playing.. A few years ago, I bought a C1 Artist and it was a great axe. I sold it only cuz it didnt offer anything I didnt already have and I needed the money.. But it played great, sounded great and I couldnt believe I got it so cheap (new off ebay) and it had Grovers, Duncan 59/JB, tone pros bridge and played as nice..

They are adding more models and features every year. I dont care for the look of the maple neck ones, esp with the gothic inlays, but nice they offer the choice. And sometimes they dont offer a color selection for some models. I really liked the one they had last year or year before with the Blackouts. But it only came in a certain color.

My only real beef with Schecter and LTD ( and bc rich ) is that so many of thier models come with EMGs.... ok, rant over.. haha

Re: Way to go Schecter!!!

I agree tc, the inlay is a big fail on me too, hopefully they'll change it next year and keep the rest.

BloodRose, if you're talking about the Blackjack ATX, it first came in black, then they added sth I'd call yellowed white and then natural. Pretty good line, I've actually been thinking of one. But spec-wise, I like the Blackjack SLS more, if only for that inlay...

Re: Way to go Schecter!!!

couldnt pull a pic of the sls from work last night. Yeah, I really like that. BUT.. why do they have to stick that gaudy teenager looking inlay in there? Thats what I mean. They make a great guitar but then put something really out there on it, to try and make it look hip or something

Re: Way to go Schecter!!!

Not to mention this thing:

Coil-splitting mini humbuckers sounds surprisingly awesome
