web guys: embedding a music player on a page

ginormous

Understatmentologist
A friend has asked me to help her get a fan page going for her favorite gospel artists. My rather dated experience is with Windows hardware build and repair, but I'm the closest she has to a "computer guy".

I need a SIMPLE Flash-based mp3 player to upload and autoplay clips, and maintain a playlist. I'm wading through web searches, and it's starting to swim before my eyes.

Any help will be appreciated.

Re: web guys: embedding a music player on a page

There must be a service that lets fans compile tracks and post a player to their web site? I would think...?

Re: web guys: embedding a music player on a page

Flash sucks.
I've heard others express similar sentiments, but I need something that can bridge the great Windows/Mac divide.

I'm looking at widgets, and they all have "one song and autoloop" functions. She wants to load songs, pause, volume and playlist.

Don't get me started on freeware... downloading .zip files is satisfying an appetite for destruction from viruses. I'm trying to slash my budget, not my wrists.
(See what I did there?)

how would this be different than soundcloud or soundclick links/players? not sure if you can legally upload other artists' material though.

I was thinking one of the internet radio stations that allow you to embed a player. Otherwise there may be a problem with playlists of others material. Maybe Napster? What do they have going on these days? I'm out of the loop. Haha

Re: web guys: embedding a music player on a page

1) upload the songs to a Soundclick account

2) Go to your "Artist/Band Page"

3) Click on "Widgets and Banners" (it's on the left sidebar)

4) Pick the player widget you like best and click "click here to get the code"

5) Set your settings (autoplay on start, show artist picture, etc.) to your preference, then copy the embed code

6) Paste that embed code into the HTML of the web page that you want it to be displayed on

Let me know if you have any problems or questions I can help out with

This fan page is sanctioned by the music organization that signed these performers, so I don't think there will be a great deal of fuss.

I'll give Soundclick a look and let you guys know... mojo and :fingersx: .

Due to the Duff beer I've been drinking, your punny humour has my head spinning like it's on an Axl - and it's making me 'Izzy.

Stupid Steve Adler for not having a usable name.

How about slamming them into youtube and embedding youtube?

Re: web guys: embedding a music player on a page

ReverbNation has a nice embedded player that you can use. I've used it for my band's site. Once you make changes to the song list on the ReverbNation side, your site is automatically updated. Plus, it has what you are asking for.

Re: web guys: embedding a music player on a page

OK, a quick update...

my friend is sore that the players I've proposed all have one "flaw" in her view: the off-site playlist update. She wants one button on the player, with a pop-up window to upload, delete, move songs up or down on the list, etc. (edit: She got really sore when I mentioned the possible copyright violation issues.)

Mind you, I did what I could. I wound up copying the HTML5 code for the player on her blog (which is hosted by the fan website). It loaded the same songs that were on the original playlist; there's no edit functions, since the fan site limits access to their server. I had to input the code from the "add photos" button. It's better than nothing, though. That appears to have appeased her thirst for these born-again crooners... for the moment.

I told her to email the sysop and yank his chain. This is outside my skill set (and it's a good idea for a possible day job, once I get some training), and for no recompense I spent way too much time on this stuff. It's a good thing I didn't blow up my little laptop.

Where's my guitar? I need to decompress.

Reverbnation probably has the best embed playlist and there a quite a few customization options.
