Week-end pedal build...

Better get it out of the way so I don't have to build another one this week... ;)

This is my smallest yet (if we don't count my test-rig).

It's a one-knob fuzz that I was able to fit inside a 1590A enclosure.

Very nice fuzz sound. The knob is just a volume knob, the amount of fuzz is controlled via the guitar's volume knob. Lots of gain in there but there's always a lot of definition.

No battery, green led, build on vero-board.

The enclosure was acid-etched then painted red and sanded to make the design colored. Getting cold outside, next time I'm gonna have to put the etchant bath into a warm-water bath to warm-up the solution a bit, this one took longer than usual and didn't get as deep as I would've liked.

Re: Week-end pedal build...

You'll have to start making demo vids for all these builds!

Re: Week-end pedal build...

It's definitely not my fanciest looking build but the challenge was to get something useful in a tiny enclosure and it worked. It's not great-looking but sure beats a plain aluminium box with knobs like many guys do.

Jay: I wish I was equipped for that or that my playing wasn't that bad...

Any digital cam that shoots video will be plenty as long as you don't put it so close to the guitar that all you hear is picking, or so close to the amp that everything is a distorted farty mess. As for your playing, there's no need to worry. You're already beyond 90% of the youtube "demo-ers" and likely the bulk of people on here. Go for it.

Very cool!

Can you tell more about the specifics of the fuzz? 2 or 3 trannies? And any kinda fuzz that is similar to?

Thanks Jay, I wanted to do better than that but I may just try the simple approach and see...

Doc, as you can guess it's quite simple. 2 transistors: one bc108 and one bc109. It's pretty much a clone of the coloursound fuzzbox. Low part count and good tone.

Re: Week-end pedal build...

Do you have any recording software? A simple close miked setup to record audio, and a digi cam for video should suffice if you can find video edit software that's easy to work with. Then you'll have decent audio to go with the video.

Re: Week-end pedal build...

I've never thought about using all that, I' still recording my music on a taPe 4track...

When I find the time I'll give it a try. Thanks man!

Re: Week-end pedal build...

Good lord, do you sleep and eat?

Impressive you can bang these out one after the other!

I'd tackle the skyripper fuzz if I had your skills.

Well not really: kid, job, band, basketball and training... these I just do when I have a few minutes off... I'll make a few layouts, test 'em out and then make the enclosures slowly. After a while I end-up with 2-3 enclosures ready and just put 'em together one after the other, which makes it seem like I'm making them fast when I'm in the boxing pedals phase...

Re: Week-end pedal build...

Far cheaper to ship to Kitchener for demo purposes.... ;)
