Re: Weird Al Yankovic

Weird Al is amazing. His career has lasted longer than most of those he's parodied...

Exactly. Gotta respect anyone that's able to still make a living all these years. Someone's still buying his records and attending his shows

Re: Weird Al Yankovic

The funny thing about Al is that he pokes fun at all of us in his songs. It's nice to just take some time to laugh at ourselves now and then. Keeps us real.

Don't take yourselves, or anything for that matter, too seriously. We're born, we live, then we die. All of us. Just the same.

Re: Weird Al Yankovic

IIRC, Dr. D gave WA his start to an extent. Think that is in the Behind The Music he did. WA is funny at times. The Coolio and Madonna parodies are great as well as "I'm Fat".

All the way to the bank , call him what you like but the fact is he's nailed it big time .

He's a comedic genius and he plays several instruments well .

Re: Weird Al Yankovic

I love Weird Al. In fact, he's what got me into rock and music in the first place. I was always kind of a shy kid growing up that never really cared about what was cool, or at least I didn't know how to be haha! I walked around in a bubble listening to Weird Al in my head phones in bliss.

I then heard his parody of Nirvana and thought the riff was cool. I checked out Nirvana and loved it. That led to Metallica.

His Polka stuff was fun and wacky to me and I like to think my early exposure to several genres has let me in my older years look at music with a more open mind and recognize talent for what it is and not be stuck in a style.

My favorite songs are: Eat it, Jurassic Park, White and Nerdy, Stuck at the Drive Through, Smells like Nirvana... and a bunch more!

For a long time as a kid I knew more of his versions of songs than the real versions.
