got my engl e530 today. plugged straight to the cab, using its own SS built-in power amp, sounds good; then i ran it through the fx loop of my old peavey triumph 60 with JJ power tubes, NOT SO MUCH difference!!! do i need to check my ears???
btw, it's a mesa black shadow 112 cab.
seriously, i couldn't tell the difference. but it's a good thing, i m gonna get rid of the peavey!
ok. im not super impressed with this preamp, a lot of hype around it. however, i tried my amt tube magnum and then amt astral tube in front, each boosted with a mxr zw od (far from being the best od), holi****!!!!! the astral tube with the preamp is so tight and thick that kerry king will start to cry!! i have played 5150 and i m 90% sure the tone im getting out of this setup is close enough to pull off that 5150 sound!!!
i have no problem with running pedals in front of the preamp. i am not picky about setup as long as the sound is right.
im sooooo happy!!!!!!

I've never heard of preamps like that having the option of working as a mini amplifier. I would imagine that would work great for low volume recording or practicing.
