Weird Les Paul Studio on Craigslist ????

My local CL has this ad posted for a Les Paul Studio - https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/msg/d/clearwater-les-paul-studio-with-case/6814546441.html

Candidly, WTF is that "binding" on the guitar? I thought LP Studios had no binding, and this looks like someone took a black sharpie, LSD, and had an artistic fever.

Oh, God, that's terrible. Yeah, someone seriously messed that one up. It looks gross. Good price though. A prime candidate to snatch up, strip it down and refinish it. And if binding is desired, there's a way to do a faux binding with the natural wood of the top.

It's not just sharpie. There's some kinda texture to it in the pictures. I think he drew the star on with a sharpie though.

I think the price is OK. Do you think $450-475 is a good offer for this?

Part of the LP sound I like is the mahogany body with maple cap and nitrocellulose finish... does anyone know the specs of this particular guitar? I'm interested in it.. in a weird way, because I know I'd have to fix the finish.

That might maybe be electrical tape? That would explain the odd puckering??
Go look at it and take cash. If you like it, haggle. If it is just gross in person or he won't go down on the price, walk away.

I saw that LP on craigslist, too. Might be worth snagging for $400, if you play it and it works for you. You can always have it refinished. It is a strange beast, for sure.

I would offer $250 and maybe settle for $350 but absolutely no more than that, and only if it plays and sounds good.

There's a lot of work in store to strip and refinish that if you do it yourself. If you hire it out expect an additional $200-300 cost. Personally, I wouldn't do it for less that $500.

If it plays and sounds great, I don’t see why it’s a horrible deal. I’d sand the finish off the neck, anyway, so whatever.
