Re: Weird String Breakage... Coincidence?
I was wondering about that too. Looking closely at the new string I put in there yesterday, it appears that the twists are extended (safely?) out beyond the big round bar, but the angle makes it hard to know for sure.
I'm going to try to pay attention to it over the next several weeks. I actually track my string breaks and changes. The first set of strings went on her March 4th and the first time the E unraveled was March 19 (15 days). Then it did it again this past Saturday (April 14; 26 days). If the pattern continues it kinda sounds like a design flaw, but I'll bet the Ernie Balls that Silence Kid was talking about would clear it up. Still, I don't see myself swapping out the tremolo. I really barely use it and only got it out of curiosity (never had one like this before) and quite frankly because I liked the look!

I am suspicious of that round bar. It looks to me to be in exactly the right place to push against the red zone in the image Silence Kid posted. That, in turn, seems like just enough to start the unraveling process. The first drop is the twist relaxing, the second is when it slides down to the ball end, and then it just unrolls as you turn the tuner.
