Weird things after I shielded my american std strat and changed bridge PU

Hi,guys! I shielded my american std. strat with cs50' pickups and changed the bridge pickup to a ssl-5(no rwrp) yesterday. As I learnt in this terrific forum,if I want keep position 2&4 hum canceling and everything in phase I have to swap the neck and bridge pickups and install the ssl5 with the two wires soldered in reverse position because fender and duncan are rwrp to each other.
But...after I opened the cavity I found the ground wire of mid pickup was way too short to let it set in the neck pickup hole,so I decided to try just soldering and installing the ssl5(leads swapped) without swapping the neck and bridge pickups.

But,contrary to my expectation, the pickups are working perfectly!Have the hum canceling positions kept, everything in phase. But why...?

Second thing, about shielding, when I open the cavity I found there's already a screw with a little metal plate run into the body and it's grounded.Yet I didn't think too much, just shielded my strat as the photo shown(the copper has conductive adhesive back and I soldered a drop of solder on the joint of cooper and the grounding metal plate to make sure they're attached.)

Unlike the pickups thing,it's a failure.I can't feel any difference,as noisy as before. So I'm guessing either I did something wrong or maybe fender now use kind of conductive paint to shield the guitars in factory? If not,why they ground the paint in the cavity?

I'm a newbie and I'm not good at english ,so if asked something foolish don't laugh at me plz:9:

About the shielding, I may be wrong but I think once read this would make a difference only if your rig is properly grounded as your guitar ground is linked to the amp's ground and this one to the electrical installation ground.

Thx for the input, dude. That ground wire goes directly to the ground connection on the jack plate, and to the tremolo spring plate, that cannot do the work?

Fender has been shielding the cavities with conductive paint for a long time. They do it before painting the body. I had a '94 American Standard with that same screw. That is to connect the shielding to ground. By adding the copper foil, you've double shielded. That's not a bad thing. I did it too but with heavy duty aluminum foil.

Yeah,but it's just not a bad thing,nothing more.

You could try a dummy coil to cut the noise if the existing shielding isn't getting you there. There were some posts/threads recently that discussed how to do it.

Searched it just now, seems reasonable. So I should use a ssl5 RWRP to do this?

get an unshielded strat or tele and wave it about in proximity of the amp, flourescent lights or your computer. That is the the noise that shielding reduces...rf interference. It does not eliminate 60 cycle hum. That is something you have to live with.

Yes, but your amp should have a ground and the corresponding ground in the electrical outlet should be really connected to electrical ground of the building. These links explain the situation very good.

Good introduction

This is the one about guitar shielding needs electrical ground to send the noise thru ground prong. Electrical ground is something that is part of the building and is connected to the every ground prong.
