Weird volume issue with pups combined

With the pickup switch on the bridge only position or on the neck position only, the volume works fine....nice smooth transition. However, with the pups combined (middle position) there's no sound then major boost in volume. Not full volume mind you....but not near as gradual. It doesn't matter if it's the neck volume all the way with the bridge volume all the way down and I'm turning up the bridge volume slowly or vice versa.

This seems to be a new development since I dropped in the CC (which had to be replaced by SD due to feedback issues). What am I missing here?

Thanks.

That is odd.
Do you have your volumes wired like Fig 1, or Fig 2?

Re: Weird volume issue with pups combined

I'm not sure I can interpret that diagram properly. I replaced the JB that was in it via the same wiring.....if memory serves it was the red and white connected and taped up, the green and bare silver grounded to the back of the pot, and the black hooked up to one of the outside poles on the volume pot (and the capacitor jumping over to the tone pot on the same pole).

Could it be the CC pickup itself, or is it something funky going on with my wiring? And if the wiring, why didn't it present an issue when the CC and JB are wired in the same? It's a pretty simple replace....black wire goes here (for the most part). Help....I'm stymied!

It sounds like you have fig. 1 wiring. Its still an oddball problem though. I'm wondering if it might not be, more or less, "normal" if you're using audio taper pots. One volume control will kill both pups, when both are selected. As you bring the volume up from zero, you'll go past the major portion of the resistance early on, giving you the voltage of both pups rising quickly.

Unfortunately, I can't say for sure, because I've never messed with a dual-volume control guitar. :blackeye:
