Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

It is really embarrasing for me to ask this, but I dont know how to do different tunings other than standard and drop d, c. How do I find out different tunings and how to do them?

P.S> I only have a Korg GA-30 tuner. :(

Re: Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

A lot of the custom tunings I use are ones I created. Just take a chord or something that you like and transcribe it so that it plays that open. From there I usually tweak one or two strings and usually come up with something cool. I'm working with standard a lot now because I realized I've used alternate tunings as a crutch for writing songs (plus, if it's in standard, I get to solo easily... slide gets boring after a while).

Re: Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

That is std tuning but 2 steps down, so all the chord shapes and scales will be the same, a bit like using a capo, but going down instead of up...

Pretty much, although the D&G strings will be tuned down an extra half-step.

Sorry, but I think you'll find rinse-master is correct.

That is standard tuning detuned four semitones (or two tones :) ).

Remember - there's no Fb or Cb ! ;)

(Well, I dare say someone could put up a music theory argument that says there IS, but what I'm saying is there ain't no black note on a piano keyboard to the left of a C or an F! :D)

Re: Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

I just did a detuning spreadsheet at work, to figure out who to de tune a whole lot easier, it took me ages, but as far as I can tell that is how it should be?

Simon_F - I use that piano thing to figure out notes all the time, dead handy, and I can't even play the piano!

Re: Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

here it is, it should appear as an attachment.

The top row is the string no (i put 7 on it), and the side row is how many steps down.

Re: Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

Cool!

It's funny about that piano keyboard thing. I had piano lessons for a few years as a kid (before I learnt the guitar). I haven't played the piano seriously for years and years but when I think of musical notes I still visualize them on a piano keyboard.

Maybe that explains why I'm not the world's greatest guitarist. :smack: :laugh2:

You know, that could apply to me too...

Anyways, I know MY theory (nothing different, just a slightly twisted way of figuring it out!)

Re: Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

dont worry

it cant be as embarrassing as me accidently destroying my duncan custom :D

Re: Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

how'd you kill your custom, anyway here's what notes look like, A Bb B C Db D Eb E F Gb G Ab A or you can think A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G# A.
Basically it's the alphabet except with no sharp/flat thing between b-c and e-f. That was such a waste of time considering you probably don't care. So E String open = E. Then on first fret = F and 2nd = F# 3rd=G and 7th fret= B 8th fret = C. When you use this you can fret a string to a desired note and tune another to it "open". Please try and understand this.

Re: Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

I use alt tunings for almost all my acoustic stuff, I do a lot of fingerstyle stuff. anyway here's some alt tunings. DADGAD, open D= DADF#AD, CACGCE, open C= CGCGCE, EBEGAD, and DADGCEb. Another one that works great with heavy/regular strings (10-50) is the name of one of my songs BEDEAD. Alt tunings open up a whole new world for you man.

Re: Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

when pulling the back plate off, it must've by mistake cut off one of the wires to the slug coil. and since it was so small, it would've been stupid to try and fix it. i know i could've sent it to duncan to fix it, but it would've ended up costing more than the pickup actually did :D

Re: Well guys..This is Embarrasing.

if you cant get certain tunings right make up your own ever hear of sonic youth? i myself use cgcggc a lot even with heavy music while my friends use drop c
