Yes they were. I have a much later one that is not MJ wound. You can have them custom ordered from the custom shop floor model. This are very close to the Allan Holdsworth pickup (AH1BJ) that was made during the same time period (which i have 2 of those).

Some people did make their own double fillister screw JB's but looks like that one is factory made.

Nice find-just need to add some lead and you are good to go!

Thanks STLMTLHD79! I did some research and found a couple of threads; one here on a '59 that had the dual row so figured it was factory. Both talked about them being a bit more "musically rounded on either end and sweeter" for what those descriptions are worth. I've run across one here that a form member assembled with a Custom Custom and JB A2 in a Trembucker that I love and I had an old late 80s DiMarzio Prototype F-Spaced out of N.Y. that I had in a Swirled Ibby '91 565 Neck/'87 550 Bodied Mutt and really liked both pickups for the tone. Demanic - this one will most likely wind up in a Gibson LP.
