Lewguitar said:There is no Custom Custom neck model...the CC is a bridge pickup. I tried a Custom bridge pickup as a neck pickup...same pickup with ceramic magnet instead of alnico 2. It was to thick and hot and wooly sounding for me. I replaced it with a Seth Lover. Lew
TwilightOdyssey said:The other guitarist in my band uses a CC in the bridge of his guitar; his rig is very different than mine (Mesa Dual Rec head v. Rivera Knucklehead), but I like the sound. I played it thru my rig a couple of times, and thought it a bit too bright for my taste. I prefer the JB, but I can certainly see what people like in the pickup: It's very present, sometimes to the point of sacrificing body, in my opinion.
Like I said, my experience is limited to being the guy on the other side of the stage from someone using a CC.
Lewguitar said:I don't doubt that's what you heard, but most folks don't find the CC to bright. I don't. If anything, most folks feel it could be a little brighter, but that's usually because the CC pickup is adjusted to far from the strings. I've noticed with my CC's that I like them very close to the strings...that brings out the upper harmonics and extends the treble. Lew
TwilightOdyssey said:Hmmm, I wonder what could be causing the brightness in my friend's guitar, then? I tried it through both of our rigs, and had the same experience. Perhaps the tonewood of the guitar is very bright? Is such a thing possible?

Totally - I did the exact same thing! =)bloodswords said:Here’s my Ibanez SZ with the CC in the bridge. Why I choose this pickup- balance. This Ibanez has a bright mahagony tone, the CC does well in trimming the midrange from being too raunchy.

I notice the biggest tone killer is too much distortion which almost always thins out the sound.
Lots of players think that because the distortion is there they have to use it..... ALL of it.....
