What amp should I get?

I don't have anything other than a fender frontman, so I've been gigging with my bassists Mesa Rectifier something or other but he has been telling me to get my own amp and I don't really like the amp anyway. I want a tube, vintage-sounding, preferably British 50-100 watt, that is great for southern rock, classic/psychedelic rock, and hard rock/metal (our band is kinda like The Sword if you've heard of them). It can't be too much more than $1000 used, and it would have to have a good master volume for home practice. I'm mostly looking at Marshalls and Oranges, but I have literally no idea where to start. Please help!

Re: What amp should I get?

Get an older Rockerverb 2x12 combo used, you can find them between a grand and $1400. You won't need another amp for the style you're playing.

Re: What amp should I get?

We can't have that. It might divert attention away from "The King".

(Wazza. Do you think that I'll get a-hat this time?)

Re: What amp should I get?

I think you've already made your mind up, but I'd think about lowering the headroom a tad so you can get the poweramp working,
Marshall jtm45 (vintage sounding marshall) marshall DSL40 or Orange TH30.
perhaps even drop to the 20 watt mark and get a 4x12 or 2x12 extension

Re: What amp should I get?

my post copied from the other thread:

Used Peavey Windsor half stack...got mine for $350 for the head and the cab. Don't believe the haters...it is glorious.

Hint: plug into low gain input for low noise, Marshall JMP master volume tone.

Re: What amp should I get?

A Windsor Half Stack is a decent option for the price, but if you're looking for something more, check out the Blackstar HT Stage. They make a 60 watt combo for $1000 or a 100 watt head for $900.

Hey Ben, can we keep this in one thread? You've got 3 threads asking the same thing.

Re: What amp should I get?

I second the Peavey Windsor suggestion. If it was me, I'd look for a used Windsor head and spend the rest on the best used cab you can find/afford. Further down the road, you can flip the Peavey and upgrade to a better head without losing anything.
