What amp to build next?

It's a good problem to have, but I can't decide if I want to build a Tweed Super 5F4 from Bruce at Mission next. Or maybe wait on that for a while (not sure how long it's going to be anyway) and build a Allen Old Flame.

I'm jonesing for a clean fendery amp to run at the same time as the Bad Cat.

The allen is more of a blackface with a little "raw" control that gives the amp some tweed character.

I've already got a slightly used Victoria tweed 2x10 cab that will fit Bruce's kit. So, it's tempting. But with Bruce having a lot on his personal plate right now, I'm not sure how much longer I can wait.

My wife has offered to buy me a kit for my birthday soon.

What to do, what to do....

Re: What amp to build next?

I woundn't let that 2x10 cab go to waste. I know you would like to stay
with Bruce and his stuff,But if he can't deliver there's a bunch of guy's
that sell kits. :)

Re: What amp to build next?

I'd go with the super kit, personally. Bruce seems like a great guy to work with, but if you simply can't wait, kmc is right.... there are bunches of places that sell kits.

Re: What amp to build next?

I'd wait for the Super...in fact, I AM waiting for a Super!

But the other amp I'd like is one of those 20 watt Marshall clones...I'm hoping that'll be Bruce's next project.

I'm not familiar with their rep either - what's their story
I dealt with dan torres years ago ,And he used to be ok. But now
he seems to be a salesman 1st, Amp guru 2nd :yell: Some of his mods
are cool, But he's great at telling you what your getting ,NOT what
you'll be losing. I would never buy Tubes from him. :saeek:

Re: What amp to build next?

I've heard way too many sketchy things about Dan. I bought my Mullard tube from him and it seems to work fine (he was one of the few that currently had it in stock, otherwise I'd be buying from revolutionguitar.com). However, his lack of customer support for amp builders would make me weary of taking on such a project.

Re: What amp to build next?

I've had some pretty bad customer service with Torres for the record.

When it comes to amp kits and Tweed Fender-ish designs, I'd use no one but Bruce. End of story.

But, I've had my eye on that Allen Old Flame for a long time now. We'll see what happens in the next few days. The wife is offering to pay for it for my birthday. I need to do something before she changes her mind! :)

Re: What amp to build next?

I couldn't buy from Torres in good conscience. He way overcharges for his parts kits.

Scott, I was sure you were going to do the Super ... maybe you're going to do another one first?
