I have an Epiphone 1959 as well! And I really like it except for the neck profile. It's a bit thicker than I'd like. Would you call that a "Medium" C? I know there are those ridiculous '58 neck profiles, but I would consider this guitar's neck is closer to those than to the LTD's Thin U... which is thin, but not shredder-thin either (IMO).

Rex_Rocker Yup. Definitely a little thicker than I'd like as well but I couldn't stand the stock pickups as they sounded unclear to me... So I replaced them with some Bare Knuckle Peacemaker humbuckers

I didn't like the stock pickups either. A bit too thin and weak for my taste. I've gone through a few sets on that guitar. Right now it has Fluence KSE's, but I kinda want to go back to it sounding like a Les Paul with PAF-types, just don't want the low output, so I'm going for Fluence Classics. :)

I also used to have an EC-1000 (silverburst) and a black EC-401. I personally always bonded with the 401 more.

I've always kinda had a sour taste towards 1000 series LTD's. I know it's a stupid thing, TBH, but I've had a couple of 1000's and a couple of 400's, and the 400's have both sounded better and played better to my ears... and they came without the abalone, which I'm not a fan of. I just had to change the bridges to bring them to the same "objective" level.

I'd actually say that my second best guitar I've ever had was an EX-401. Sadly, I don't have it anymore. :(

I assume yours is one of the FT ones based on the fact that it has a Rosewood board? I've always wanted one of those. Like an actual modern-playing Les Paul.

About the ESP LTD EC1000, yes, I believe ittah rosewood board, I had the SD version because I felt it was the most natural sounding in the videos. However, when I had received it, I found the 59/JB set to be underwhelming and so I replaced them with the Green Magic pickups. I am super happy with the results of the Green Magic Pickups which can be heard here:

My problem is that the Seymour Duncan 59/JB set was lacking in body or "fullness". The bridge pickup watha shrill, thin sounding. Seemed to be only good for higher gain stuff. I wanted something for lighter gain, so I went with the Green Magic as an afterthought replacement.

If you thought the JB was thin, you'd hate EMG's, LOL.

I've always had a love/hate thing for vintage-inspired pickups. I love Duncan '59's or the Gibson Burstbucker Pros (not the 1, 2, or 3, though), just always struggled with them being so weak. Fishman Fluence Classics give me a very similar EQ curve without the low output. I love that.

But I personally find the JB fatter than any PAF-type I've tried. Again, personally, but each to his own.

And sorry for derailing the thread... I'll play along now! :)

I dig my Music Man Silo Special with A2P and CC pickups, with 'Do It All' wiring.
I also like my Warmoth Velocity with the Custom Shop Seth Lover set with the same wiring. These are my 2 favorite instruments.

My favorite guitar of all time for feel is a 1960 or 61 LP Special DC

It's the first guitar with a modern flatter wide neck -I think its called a 60s slim taper

Basically a little wider than an LP and shallower like a D shape with a 12" radius

-similar to what would be an SG neck a year later.

To me the best feeling guitar in my hand on average.

My top five electrics:

Favorite LP Standard is an '83 Guitar Trader "pre-Historic" burst reproduction. Hand carved, long tenon, deeply scalloped nicely-flamed top.
Crisp & woody tone - dry when rolled back, juicy when opened up. Effortless sustain. Super lively medium-chunky neck, perfect for my hands.

Favorite LP Custom is a mid-80s Burny (hard to date these precisely). All mahog, no maple cap. Rich voicelike sound. Originally white, now ivory.

Favorite Strat is a '63 that had been refinished in LPB and refretted with medium jumbos sometime before bought her in '82.

Favorite PRS was my very first one; bought her new in '87. Startlingly responsive. Still head over heels for this guitar after 36 years together.

Favorite boutique guitar is a James McNaught VDC. Incredibly 3D quilt top, and both neck & body are black korina under the maple cap.
Super deep neck tenon extends almost to the bridge. Soft v neck profile and fat-yet-sizzly tone with the stock Rio Grande pickups.

Two bonus faves:

Favorite bass is a '72 Ibanez copy of the '71 Fender Jazz Bass. Simply massive, in both weight & tone: 12 lbs even, and sounds like it.
Named the Ilyusha after the IL-2 Sturmovic, a WWII plane nicknamed the 'flying tank.' It's really too heavy for me to play it live these days.
But I can't sell an old friend - we've had too much history together over the decades. Kinda wish I'd saved one of my SVTs too. Oh well.

Favorite acoustic is a nicely yellowed & lightly checked '80s Martin HD-28 that I found a crazy deal on. Guitar Center had decided it was unfixable.
The saleskid told me it was only good for a wall decoration, when actually it just needed a new bridge, bridge plate, and bottom five frets.
Scored it (with factory case) for less than the price of a vintage Martin case alone. A few repairs, now it's golden in playability, sound, and looks.

last_waltz_strat.jpg

i dont have good gear pics of almost any thing, which i should really fix, but here is one of my main strats. i made it maybe 18 years ago. alder body hardtail with a three color burst under olympic white. the neck i made needs a refret and i dont have time to do that, so i put this old carvin neck on with sperzels. antiquity II jaguar pups, neck in the neck, bridge in the middle, bridge with a baseplate in the bridge. the mini switch puts the middle and bridge in series. great vintage sounding strat. used the jag pups since they have flat a5 poles and are wound very similar to an early 60s strat pup

The three instruments I always felt like I would try to save in the event of an emergency:

1998 Gibson "Gothic" Explorer, which I bought new and has been with me through everything. Needs a fret job but plays and sounds great.

2003 (ish) Taylor 615ce - a jumbo acoustic with a maple back and sides. They don't make this particular model anymore. I don't play it enough but I love it every time I pick it up.

not sure of the date on my Ibanez SR1006 - a big, heavy maple neck-through 6 string bass, plays like a dream, sounds great on recordings, all the things.

A recent purchase has joined the pantheon - 2014 Gibson 7-string LP Classic, just a joy to play, I never want to put it down. Finally got set up a little bit in my new place and it's the only guitar I've pulled out so far.

All my other instruments are cool and stuff, but these are the ones I wouldn't want to live without.

God help me I love them all. even the ones that are not my favorites. I love the looks, the feel, and the sound. I'll take any combination of two, and occasionally you get a real winner with all three!

I love guitars period. Like children, at any moment one may be in or out of favor, but I love them all.

I do have a particular warm spot for a Burgundy Les Paul Custom with three gold covered pickups though....
