What are your favorite brand-mixed sets?

Many times I've mixed a duncan or dmz bridge with whatever stock neck, and many times I've replaced both positions with one brand or another, but never have I intentionally mixed SD/dmz,,,bkp/SD,,ect.

I have a schecter swap to do soon (fishman modern 3-voice set coming out!) and decided to use my last new tb-8 gates invader at the bridge and the f-spaced super2 at the neck. This guitar is absolutely not for pretty cleans or versatility. They both have chrome/nickel poles and are wide-spaced, plus the Floyd has all stainless screws to match. Can't wait to hear the blended middle position on the 3-way! (for leads)

Anyone have duncan/dmz sets or other mixes they have settled on in a specific guitar?

My Gibson Les Paul has a Gibson Burstbucker 2 modified to “Pagebucker” specs (Alnico 3 magnet) in the neck and a Whole Lotta Humbucker (with UOA5) in the bridge. I think it sounds killer!

I really liked the 59B mixed with a DiMarzio 36th Anniversary PAF in the neck.

The PAF Pro in the bridge with a Phat Cat in the neck was also cool.

Texas Special neck/Custom Flat bridge of a Squier Mustang, Pearly Gates bridge/Tex-Mex neck and mid in a MIM strat, and Antiquity neck/late 70's, unpotted Super Distortion bridge in a Hamer Special.

Bare Knuckle Black Dog bridge / 59/A4 neck
Distortion bridge / 496R neck
Jazz Bridge / DiMarzio PAF Pro neck
Antiquity Texas Hot Strat Bridge / Fender 68 Strat Reissue middle / Original Fender 66 Strat neck

I have 14 guitars that have mixed sets of Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, GFS, Dragon Fire, Bare Knuckle, Bill Lawrence and Guitar Heads pickups.

Some times an inexpensive brand will do better in a specific part of the string path, than an expensive one.

To each, their own tastes !!!!

Currently rocking:
Strat with Thornbucker and 2 Texas Specials
SG with PAF Pro in bridge and JB in neck

Both do everything I ask from jazz to RHCP to metal

PRS SE Custom has stock 85/15 in the bridge and Duncan Jazz in the neck. They're out of phase but this guitar is dialed specifically for downtuned metal and the middle out-of-phase position with tons of distortion sounds absolutely wicked with palm muted rhythm playing. Very djentey which I don't want all the time but is cool to switch to.

The Perpetual Burn with the Kiesel AP 11 singe set up in my Kiesel DC 135 was fantastic. Really matched up very well in tone and output. The PB in particular split with the AP 11's sounded fantastic. That set is no longer in that guitar but is here in my parts box and will likely return at some point in a new home. Also had really good luck with a set of Dimarzio Blue velvet singles and a Crazy 8 in my old Washburn USA MG 100. Sentient neck with a Dimarzio Gravity Storm bridge was also a cool set up.

My Strat has a P-Rails, Laurence L250 in the middle and a Pearly Gate in the neck. My Tele has a Hot Rail in the bridge and a TV Jones Classic Plus bridge in the neck. Both guitars sound glorious.

I have 4 Bill Lawrence L250's in the neck positions of some of my Metal guitars and they are very powerful and articulate pickup in that position.

For a while I couldn't find any L250's, luckily, I discovered the Dragon Fire Duo Rail and it was a great find.... Great pickup too, for an amazing low price.

When you had the Perpetual Burn in your Kiesel with the singles, were you running a 250K volume pot?
I'm still on the fence about trying the PB with 250K in an HSS.

What color and config are those Fishman? Selling?

One of my Les Pauls is rather bright-voiced one and its Burstbucker 2 bridge was harsh & scratchy in this guitar.
Creme Brulee bridge from Rewind fattened it nicely and smoothed the harshness without damping the highs much.
Still crisp, only now it's rich & sweet.

Another LP has a stock P90 neck paired with a DiMarzio 36th bridge PAF.
The slight honkiness of the 36th complements the P90 very nicely.
I love P90 neck tone.

Also running a Firebird Studio with a UA5-loaded Duncan Custom bridge and dynamic/sparkly Suhr SSV neck.
Throaty at the bridge and clear & bright
at the neck - wonderful combo for an all mahogany guitar.

Have to add one more combo, currently in my Jackson:
Custom Custom (bridge), Injector Neck (middle), 54 Pro Neck (neck)

Injector in the middle sounds like a Gibson neck pickup. 54 Pro gives me Strat neck tone. In betweens are very stratty. So I'm getting both satisfactory Gibson and Strat tones out of one guitar.

H/H fluence modern 3-voice (modern/classic/single)

I picked this up awhile back for $929 brand-new but with a pencil eraser size paint-chip right on the longest(upper-outer) point, but it's on the back side of the guitar.
They even gave me the chipped piece, but I went the black sharpie dab route and it was invisible in about 5 seconds.

Haven't got to the pickup swap yet, or even switching it to my own tuning and setup, which I still want to do, and then play with the fishman heights to see what they can really do.
Odds are I will do the tb8/super2 swap and go to a single volume with regular black knob and 3-way toggle.. All silver poles on the pickups will match the stainless bridge screws.
If I do sell the fishmans I'll make sure you get the heads-up first.

The PAF Pro in the bridge with a Phat Cat in the neck was also cool.

I tried my PAF Pro at the bridge position for fun once, it was disturbingly soooooo smooth. My fuzz pedals were sounding as smooth and buttery as with a neck pickup (fans of fuzzes know what I am talking about). Do you get the same kind of behaviour on your guitar?

I love the PAF Pro as a neck pickup, but I prefer my bridge pickup to have more bite.

SG with PAF Pro in bridge and JB in neck

PAF Pro in bridge and JB in neck, really?!? Or is it a typo?

I haven't mixed any Duncans with DiMarzio before. But I have mixed DiMarzios with other pickups. Currently my favorite set is a Kramer Alinco V from a Baretta Special and a DiMarzio D Activator neck. I have this in a LTD MH and they sound awesome together. Very balanced. Good thing you can find the Kramer Alinco V cheap used for around 20 to 35 bucks usually because lot of folks take them out without even trying it. Its a kick ass pickup. I have stocked up on them and do plan on using them in other guitars in the future.

a JB or Custom with stock Fender single coils is usually a pretty deadly setup.

JB in bridge with Dimarzio Evolution in Neck. Classic crunch for riffs and modern, strong output clarity for cleans and leads

rocking right now a Strat with Quart pound bridge, SSL-1 middle, and Dimarzio SDS-1 in the neck, that high output ceramic (true)single they've got. Same idea as why I like the JB\Evolution combo
