What are your opinions on G&L Tribute Guitars?

Hello all.

I was looking around on the net and I came across an intriguing guitar. it's a Will Ray Tribute G&L. It's got the 3 Z coil pickups and a B Bender already installed from the factory. I was wondering what you guys thought of the overall quality of the G&L Tribute series. Is it on par with MIJ Fenders? MIM Fenders?

Let me know what y'all think. :burnout:

It's about the same. I don't know how readily available parts are for the G&L guitars but that might be an issue if you need to replace something or upgrade parts. I have seen G&L strats for under $600 mint so I don't recommend spending more than a couple of hundred on a new G&L Tribute.

Let me know when G&L finally offers the Jerry Cantrell Rampage.

Yess

The G&L Tributes I have messed around with seem pretty cool. I have heard some say that they totally put American made Strats to shame, but I think they are just above average, which is a good thing. The sound and the quality are about equal to Mexico Fenders from what I saw, and I like Mexico Fenders. The G&L I played around with was a Strat clone, I think an S500.

i have a g&l tribute l2000 bass, no complaints at all! workmanship is great, nice finish, nice balance, great electronics, nice feel :)

Re: What are your opinions on G&L Tribute Guitars?

They feel pretty decent, but those HipShot B Benders on there are very awkward to me.

Re: What are your opinions on G&L Tribute Guitars?

I've tried a few Tributes and I'm always impressed. They'll blow away any MIM Fender, and give most MIA Fenders a run for their money.

Re: What are your opinions on G&L Tribute Guitars?

I'm a Fender guy but IMO, those G&L Tributes are better than MIM Strats/Teles. They just feel more solid. Build quality seems more consistent as well. Keep this in mind too, they go through the U.S. facility for final checks/setup before being shipped out to the dealers and they also come with the same electronics as what's in their U.S. model counterparts.

Tried one and was so impressed over the Mexi stuff that I sold my Ibanez AS-120 to get it...the pickups sound fat and the hardware, fit and finish are great. Sustains for a long time with the bridge design they use.

Good guitars.:fing2:

I don't think there's any comparison really.... hardware, fit, finish and and sound is superb on the G&L. USA MFD pick ups are really fat sounding, I much prefer those pick ups to any stock Fender pick ups, you have to look at CS pick ups to get that fat, quality sound. If you have the chance to get a good price I'd just go for it!

G&L, has already done that. They made approximately 75 Cantrell Rampage reissues about ten years ago. They show up on Ebay occasionally.
