what dist pedal

my main rig:

duo-sonic with 8k single with A5 in neck, soon to be fast track 2 17k hummer in bridge. i might change out the neck pickup for like a chopper. 11s for strings, tuned std.

into: octave multiplexer (i might get a u-pog in the future) -> voodoo labs superfuzz -> this pedal -> chorus (sparingly) -> stereo memory man w/ hazarai

amps: guild maverick 3x12ax7 2xel34 and my main is a hiwatt custom tube 20 2xel84, 5x12ax7, 1x10" stock speaker (might change if i get more money/a job)

cabs: marshall 4x12 with g12t75s (might change as well depending on money/job)

yeah, i'm looking for something heavy, chunky but controllable. nothing too wild, i'm especially interested in muffs and the like and the like but very open to other stuff.

if i can make, i'd like to. so maybe just give me the name and i'll look up the schematic

thanks much

the general guitar gadgets big muff is an awesome pedal. they send you all the components to make it the different specs of various versions too. well worth the money imo

Re: what dist pedal

i bought one today, $171 flat.
I think it's worth the price, every experience i've had with fulltone has been great for me.

Re: what dist pedal

What type of DIST. sound are you going for ?

Hard OD ?
Flatt Out DIST ?

Re: what dist pedal

Oh forgot to mention . . .

. . . i got to play on a Duncan Lava Box not too long ago !

Belongs to a local BLUES cat - i kid you not !

His main rig is an Ibanez AR-something (from early 80's), Epi 335 Dot, and an unknow (to me) full-hollow, into the Lava Box, into a Peavy Classic 50.

I stood there opened mouth as this 50-plus gentleman ripped up some fantastic blues tunes with such a hi-gain dist unit.

I honestly want to get one after he allowed ME to play on his rig for a few min after the show.

I wanted to start a thread on my experience, but sadly have not, so i thought i'd merntion it here !

DO LOOK INTO THAT POWERFULL TONE SHAPING BOX !!!

It CAN do it all, and that Rumble switsh - perfect for all styles of music !!!

Re: what dist pedal

Try the Ibanez Jemini. I absolutely love mine and it's two pedals in one box, each with its own level, drive and tone control - and both sides sound great! It'll turn a single channel amp into a three channel amp.

I can't recommend this pedal highly enough - it's superb!

Re: what dist pedal

If you want a fuzzy distortion sound a Big muff is the classic answer...

There are LOADS of killer dirt boxes out there these days and many of them are pretty low buck...just buy used and try a few until you find what you want...

For example...almost all (if not all!) Barber dirt pedals (including their mega cool, slugetastic fuzz box!) can be had for less than $100 new...if you order new and wait a Timmy is $105 new, the DOD 250 is on sale now in the $30 range, SD-1's, DS-1's, DS-2's, are all over, the Little Big Muff is pretty low buck, as is the Double Muff, if you shop and shop hard oyu can nail down an older RAT for less than a bill, also the Duncan Tweak Fuzz and/or Lave Box are both pretty killer, there is the new MXR stuff...GT-OD, CAE Boost/OD, Distortion III...these are all pretty killer...the Distortion II is quite cool for highish gain stuff...

thats the issue...way too many choices

Re: what dist pedal

either fuzzy OD or like hard OD

Fuzz OD ? . . . in that case :

Best bang for buck, and i HONESTLY believe it, when i say, "best bang for your hard earned money", must go to :

EHX Double Muff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tyv9E1AB4KA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAVhAgTIP6g

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/ElectroHarmonix-Double-Muff-Distortion-Pedal?sku=153327

Fuzzy OD, on single mode, and on double mode a THICK FUZZ.
And it is only $60.00 !!!
You can't beat that !

IF you can afford it, look into these :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZulY8zE7kM - a must have fuzzy OD for me !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnuxmBwNNgI - sexy gritty OD, prefer this over my old TS9

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDl4j1qkAJs - screamer fuzz !
