What do y'all use to record?

I have a drum machine, a Pod, a small mixer, and a buttload of effects available to me but no way to record them into my computer! Can someone recommend me an inexpensive, good program to use? Also will i need anything like a interface (like a Tascam US122) or anything like that to be able to get decent sound?

What do you guys use? I wanna be able to not only record clips but to create decent demos as well. Nothing fancy, just be able to record and loop bits.

Re: What do y'all use to record?

You will probably need an adapter so you can run a cable from the "out" of your POD , mixer or drum machine to the "line in" input (not the mic input) on your soundcard. Then you can record with the multitracker software of your choice. I use Cubase but you can find less expensive and even free ones out there that will do the job.

Re: What do y'all use to record?

I just got a Korg D32XD 32 track recorder., the ease of use is astounding. I have been recording my upcoming CD on a Mackie 24/96 set up at a beautiful converted barn but know for the long term I have to be able to create in my own space. I work mcuh faster that way.

Re: What do y'all use to record?

Well I use a Tascam 2488, really easy and it works extremely well. Previously I used a Tascam 788 which is wonderful as well but the 2488 offered more tracks, more inputs, a larger HDD and a built in burner. All big pluses and a great upgrade.

On the PC I use Cakewalk's Guitar Tracks Pro I have version 2.0, I think Isaw 3.0 just came out. It is straight forward and pretty versatile for a relatively inexpensive program. I use it in conjunction with a Sound Blaster Audigy card which gives me a few different I/O options. Not an expensive card but it handles 24/96 audio which is nice.

I have a Zoom rt-123 drum machine, a bunch of amps, a few mics - the most used being a Shure SM57 and a Studio Projects C1. I also have some MXL mics but I generally use those as overheads. I have a Pre-Sonus 2 channel tube mic pre, Pre-Sonus headphone distribution amp, an Alesis 3630 Compressor, an ART OPL Comp/Limiter, M-Audio BX8 monitors, Tannoy SBM monitors, Sennheiser and AKG phones and about 40lbs of cables. Up until recently I have been using a Boss Amp Factory for direct recording but since I fell for this little Vox Valvetronix I have just been micing that up. I'd like to get a ToneLab and/or the Yamaha Magicstomp for some direct use.

Re: What do y'all use to record?

the Line6 Guitar port.. pretty self explanatory if you ask me =P

Re: What do y'all use to record?

Nothing new to add -- Boss and Korg make great stand alone units (as well as Yamaha, but that might be to expensive).
Cakewalk Guitar Studio Pro is great for PC recording.

+1 on the Cakewalk product. Even an idiot like myself can record something. I'm using a Line 6 Flextone IIXL, and the direct out is very nice for this. You can record anytime day or night... if you don't have a 2-1/2 year old and 5-month old running around that is.

Re: What do y'all use to record?

I Use a windows sound recorder, a pc microphone. my guitars, and the amp,

^Hehe!
Well an AKG414 into a big mixerconsole, from there into a DAT and then into a converter and into the computers soundcard.
I use Nuendo as software, but I only use the computer as a glorified taperecoreder.
Well and all that means real amps and cabs;)

I have a Pro tools HD studio which has cost me a bijillion dollars. Based on what u are looking 4, I recommend the Digidesign Mbox.

Re: What do y'all use to record?

Has anyone used an axetrak (http://www.axetrak.com/) for recording? The sounds samples are promising, but the amps he used for them are pretty limited (JCM900, Fender Roc Pro, and Randal RG).... Wondering if anyone has any firsthand experience.

Re: What do y'all use to record?

I have the Tascam US-122 and IMHO it works great.

Good points:

- can connect a POD direct to the LIne in input
- has a built-in mike pre-amp so you can use a Shure as well
- has 2 separate channel with separate input knobs
- has a "direct-out" output so you can get a monitoring signal of your guitar by bypassing the pc.
- powered by USB

Bad points:

- wish it was smaller
- the windows mixer interface sucks.(but that's why it has the knobs!)

Do those PODS let you go straight into the computer without any additional software?

Re: What do y'all use to record?

Software - Adobe Audition 1.5 & Soundforge 6
Hardware - Shure SM-57 mic, XLR to 1/4 inch transformer, 1/4 to 1/8 adaptor, Via motherboard line in.
