What do You Consider Heavy for an LP?

Just curious...at what weight do you consider a Paul "heavy"? 9lbs? 10lbs? More?

I have a few--some feel great, some are a little heavy. But I don't have a scale so I can't really contribute as I don't know the actual weight of any of them.

I also like a heavier guitar, it feels more like a tool and less like a toy. I hate ultra light Strats. BUT, sometimes it is a bit ridiculous, 15 lbs? woah... better call the chiroprator. ;)

I know I know.....but i'm serious! I just ordered a PRS private stock singlecut a couple months ago. I specified them to pick out a really heavy piece of SA mahogany for the back body and use the most dense piece of rosewood they could find for the neck(as you probably know, rosewood is allready a very heavy wood), yeah, it'll be a beast!

Above 10lbs.

+1

Under 8 is too light...10 is getting too heavy. Though , I prefer 10 pounds plus in Les Paul vs 10+ in a ML/Explorer etc cos they balance differently.

9 pounds is just right.

Re: What do You Consider Heavy for an LP?

I have four Les Pauls. The newest is a 2006 '58 Historic Plaintop (non VOS). I have a 2005 Root Beer Supreme, and two Classic Premium Plus models from 1996 and 1997.

Oddly, all weigh in a 9.1 lbs.

I notice the weight above about 9.75 lbs--so I'd say anything over that is too heavy. I played some of the really heavy LPs, and the heavier guitars just don't seem to be very dynamic.

I'd love to find a Historic in 8.5 to 8.75 lb. range.

Only a girly-man would ask a question like that....

But after 10 is heavy. If you are are girly-man....

Re: What do You Consider Heavy for an LP?

It depends on how many sets I'm playing, how strong my shoulder is feeling and how big the strap is.

Generally, over 12 pounds and it's more than I want to deal with.

When they get underweight they feel like a toy to me.

Re: What do You Consider Heavy for an LP?

I'd have to agree with the 10lbs. I can't imagine holding a heavier guitar than that for an hour or more. MY BACK ..... MY BACK AND MY NECK !

Re: What do You Consider Heavy for an LP?

I haven't handled many LP's, so I'd say probably around 10 pounds. My Epiphone LP special weighs less than a strat does, gotta love those lightweight axes.

Re: What do You Consider Heavy for an LP?

As previously stated, 12lbs to 13lbs is pretty much pushing it.

Re: What do You Consider Heavy for an LP?

Anything over 10lbs is getting heavy. Give me a Les Paul in the high 8lbs, low 9lbs range and I'm happy.

Re: What do You Consider Heavy for an LP?

I like my Pauls the way I like my metal - HEAVY!

Re: What do You Consider Heavy for an LP?

My LP Std weighs in right under 9.75lbs. Pretty good for a mid 90's clunKer. I love it but it can get heaVY, at that point I whip out the Hamer (mid 8lbs).
