When all your tracks have been recorded and all plugins/effects have been added. What do you guys do to the overall mix? Do you run all tracks into mastering plugins? Or do you just leave the mix alone and save it 'as is'?

Re: What do you do after a final mix?

on a thing I'm working on right now, I've got some compression/limiting on the master bus in the mix and I may just leave it, I like how it's sounding.

I think there's a subconcious push usually to mix something then master it, but a lot of us will just screw it up further. Most anything can be improved by a good mastering engineer (they've got A LOT invested in their gear and ears), but Smeagol needs to be carefulses when we do it ourselves. We can screw up our preciousssssss.

Leave it alone - "Mastering" is an artform all itself that I trust to the guys who aren't playing the instruments...
