What do you guys think of the import PRS SE line?

I'm wondering what you guys think of these guitars. Before, I used to prefer Dean guitars, but the thin necks on those are beginning to hurt my fingers, so I need a neck that's bigger and more comfortable. The PRS SE line seems to be right for me, but I'm unsure about the quality. I'm mostly interested in the new Singlecut SE (not the Tremonti SE). If you've had better experiences with something else, please state what it is and why, but they must have dual humbuckers, a thicker neck (not a baseball bat, though), and in the price range of around $600 or less, hopefully. Also, I'd like to know where I could find a case, especially for those PRS SE guitars, if that's what I choose. Thanks in advance. :)

I think most around here give them high marks. I had a Tremonti SE about 2 years ago. It was a quality, nice sounding guitar but the wide, fat neck was tough for my small hands in the upper frets. I couldn't find any to play so I had to order one. But that in no way detracts from the quality of it.

My problem is the total opposite of yours. These thin necks make my fingers hurt because there's nothing there to grab on to. They hurt most during bends. I can do things to compensate, like stretch my thumb over the fingerboard like Jimi Hendrix. My fingers don't hurt anymore when I do that, but it's just not very comfortable that way.

I think for their price range, they're some of the better guitars around.

Everyone that i've played around with, single cut and double cut's, had nice feel and playability, great fit and finish. Seems like a heck of a guitar for the price.

Awesome. Seems like I'm headed in the right direction. :)

Would any of you know where I could get a case for a Singlecut?

Re: What do you guys think of the import PRS SE line?

I would think that you could get a generic Gator brand case that would work better than the included gig bag. You can get one of those from any of the big dealers(MF, AMS, Sam Ash, etc..)

So a Gator case for a Les Paul should work?

You already like Deans....Try the Hardtail Select.
I got mine for $600. Thicker neck than Gibson '60s style, but not quite as thick as the '50s style baseball bat neck.
The quality is a bit higher than on my Santana SE.

I was thinking about getting one, but I passed on it because I thought it had the same neck style as the others.

I know about Dean quality. I've been playing Deans for a few years now. Always impressive. Even their EVO XMs and Vendetta XMs are nice for such little money.

Re: What do you guys think of the import PRS SE line?

I've owned a ton of regular PRS guitars and Currently use a USA PRS Singlecut and a McCarty as my main gigging guitars. I just picked up one of these SE Singlecuts on a whim to give one a shot. For the money these would be very hard to beat. Mine sounds and plays great and the workmanship is flawless. The most important thing to me is that the neck feels just like my USA wide fats. I did replace the stock pots with CTS and had to widen the nut slots a bit. I also put a C-5/Jazz zebra set in it but I'm getting ready to stick a WCR in the bridge. I'm having a blast with mine and it can hang very well with my USA PRS guitars.

If you get a flat-top make sure to get one of those emo fanboy wristbands for your arm because you'll be hurting if you don't. They literally have the sharpest edge I've seen/felt on a guitar.

Damn, wally
That guitar looks awesome.
I might trade my santana for one of those.

Re: What do you guys think of the import PRS SE line?

I played a Santana SE that was ****... absolute DEAD.

I've played a couple P90 things that were much better than that, and almost bought one. But my impression has been that they're a bit hit or miss... the two P90s I tried were far apart as well.

Don't even remember what the neck felt like. A neck is pretty much a neck to me for some reason.

The SE Singlecuts have a carved top. It's not the same top carve as the USA Singlecut, but it looks great and is very comfortable.

I'm not talking about the Santana SE, or the Soapbars. Plus, all brands are hit-or-miss. Lots of the guys on here have had problems with quality on high priced Gibsons that they've played/owned.

So, I guess your post was pretty irrelevant.

EDIT: I suppose it wasn't totally irrelevant, since the title of the thread is pretty general and didn't specify the particular guitar that I wanted input on. I apologize if you might've felt that I was trying to insult you by what I'd written or by the way I wrote it.

One more thing. The SE singlecut will not fit easily in all of the LP cases I've tried it in. The SE has a thinner body and because of that the neck sits funny in the case because the body is sitting so low. I settled on a case I bought on ebay and put extra padding under the body to elevate the guitar a bit and make it sit right in the case. The case is very nice and after the mod it fits the SE like a glove. I'll try and find a link to case I bought on ebay.

Why doesn't PRS sell a damned case for it? I'm sure their Tremonti SE model sells really well. They really should sell cases for customers who buy their SE line, or add $70 to the price and include a case with it.
