The classic one sounds pretty good to me. Would be neat to try that with a proper tube power amp. I applaud them for doing rack stuff (it really is one of the best guitar amp systems I believe), but it better be darned good to take up prime real estate in a rack case and bump out one of the many available rack units that can cop marshall tones.
This has me thinking - why are there no one-space preamp/power amp rack units (unless I'm mistaken)? Like half preamp, half SS power amp - both of which could be used independently if the need arose. It'd make a nice backup amp for rack users.
They should make a 20 watt single space tube power amp like marshall and boogie has, but at a reasonable price.
Out of curiosity, if you've been searching - what else is up-and-coming in rack preamps? I see Engl has their unit, but are there many others going on right now? Maybe that sansamp one? I'm guessing boogie still makes their recording rectifier preamp.
