What do you prefer, straight or slant cabs? and why?

Just interested, i like the idea of a slant cab and think that it looks pretty cool if its the right cab, and like the idea of the sound getting distributed more than the straight cab, but i find with my slant cab i still have to get down in front of it to hear it properly. I dont know if it makes that much difference. But ill shortly be getting a straight cab as well which ill be able to see the difference between when i put speakers in it.

Just starting a thread to see other peoples views and opinions on this.

i like my straight cab better then my slant for reasons unkown. i wish i had two straights instead of one straight and one slant so i could put em next to eachother and have them match with the head resting in the middle

The straight has a larger volume inside and a deeper tone...but I like the angled: they look cooler! Lew

for the half stack lok id go with slanted, but if your going for that rock star wall fo marshalls looks you need straight

I prefer the spread of the slanteds - which is why I have two and no straight - but ultimately, I don't think it really makes that much difference...

i like slanted cabs more, they spread the sound out much better, imo, and i'm with lew, they look so much cooler!

I dig slanted for half stack for the sound dispertion, but someday - when I get my full stack...it's gonna be straight on bottom and slant on top, Rock Star style!

i always thought that slanted cabs were for a better sound. i heard people say that an amp sounds better when its on a slanted cab?

maybe ur can hear it better when the sounds going straight up in the air?

Well, typically, I like standing off at a slight angle from the actual speakers themselves. This way, you get less of the harsh highs and a little more of the full tone with a smoother bass and treble response.

personally, i use 2x12's, its more practical for me.. but if i were to go 4x12, i like slants

I prefer the sound spread of a slant, but can't stand the look of them.

I opted for one of those strait slants Mesa makes. It has a slant baffle but is housed in a strait cab.

You need to be about 20 feet or more away from your cab before it starts to sound right. Closer than 10 feet and the speakers are aimed at your chest. From about 12 to 15 or 18 feet (depending on make/model of speaker) your head is in the speaker beam. After that, you get the full spread with little to no beam.

Also, some speakers are more directional than others. I friend of mine is running a pair of Greenbacks and he swears that when he steps out of the speakers cone of projection the volume drops by atleast half.

My speakers are vintage 30s in an ENGL slant cab. And yeah all im talking about is standing about 6 foot away at most, so i guess that doesnt really count

Doesn't really count, but I know what you mean.

Sometimes, I like to crank my amp and sit on the floor about four or five feet in front of my cab and play lots of chugga chugga stuff with this big, stupid looking grin on my face.

Slant, most definitely, they look better, and perform better as a half stack, with PA being what it is the full stack is almost a thing of the past ; even if two cabs were required, I'd opt for two slants in a half stack array.They work good laid of their side also with the two slant sections in one plane. That's great so you can here yourself all over the stage( so can the rest of the band), and without that top end smacking you in your face (also causes less phase cancellation that way). Ideally the cabinet could be made a little deeper though.I still prefer them if they are ported with a telescopic port, but that's me.
