What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

I have a Strat, and it sounds really thin. I want a heavy thick sound. Is the Invader my best bet? Thanks.

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

the invader is a good thick pup, but you wont get much high end from it. Get it if you wanna play punk or something like that.

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

yup the old tom delonge models had an inavder in the bridge of the strat. It souded sooo good very thick thicker than a hotrails imo,

it sounds thin? you got an INVADER? .. use 500k pots and put it higher man .. do it now

Davey, I think he is refering to a non-modded strat, and is wondering if putting in an Invader will help him.

yea... didnt read it well.. ignore that last post

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

The Invader rocks in a Strat! Depending on what type of music you want to play. For metal/hard rock you can't beat it for power chords and crunch. But watch out if you intend to use it for solos. It's not very articulate and can get really muddy. Although if you have stock single coils in that Strat be careful. The Invader has way more output than a stock Fender single coil so there will be a huge volume difference when switching pups.

I play Metal/Death Metal. I tried a Dimarzio Evolution and X2N so far. I like both of them, but they both sound too thin in this guitar. I'm running a 31 band rack EQ with a Marshall, so I should be able to get plenty of treble. I'm also a Rhythm player, so I'm not worried about Leads. Should I go with the Distortion instead?

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

the Invader is my best bottom end feeder. yes it has a clipped treble response but many of us ignore its enhanced mids (refer to the SD tone chart). this allows the Invader to sound thick & 'mudless'. i get very good black metal tones & the Invader also serves my fusion needs. i can even get a reasonable Scofield tone clean + a little tube screamer injection with this one...

the X2N i did try but IMO Dimarzio has that inherent 'smooth' top end that makes it sound like, well, you are playing a Dimarzio.

Just remember, you can't EQ what is never there to begin with. EQ isn't really a solution for a severe lack in something... more like a fine-tuner.

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

Yea, your right. I do like my Treble. Maybe the Distortion would be better, since I like it anyways.

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

The invader def. has a heavy thick tone, great for fast powerchords and muting, but maybe if you do like the treble you should also consider the distortion. Oh and if you didnt already know(although im fairly sure you wont be using it for this), you will only be able to coax a very uninspiering clean tone out of an invader. Your main concern seems to be how 'thin' you guitar sounds, and i am 100% certain that an invader would solve this problem.

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

the invader is really touch and a brute, great for rhythm, but is is also darkish and heavy. if you want some treble, go with the distortion, a much better choice in your shoes i'd say

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

I try to make it a habit not to bash SD pickups, because they are all wonderful for something. HOWEVER, I was given an Invader by a friend that hated it, I installed it, and then tried to GIVE IT BACK!!!! He did not want it back even as a spare parts box pickup, so I sold it while the whole DeLonge thing was going on, and I felt very fortunate to get $40 for it. I even felt bad for the guy I was selling it to, and offered him a chance to research the issue before paying. He was dead set on getting the same pickup that Tom D. had, so I sold it to him and bought another JB!!!!!

am i the only one immature enough? i guess so :laugh2:

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

I got an Invader for the bridge of my SG because the previous pickup was too bright. I wanted the darkness the Invader has.

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

I think Invaders sound great in a Strat. I've always heard talk about there being no top end in them, but I've never had any problem getting any. What I've found Invaders to be are a very wide sonic range pickup. I agree with Fatty, you can't put something in that isn't there to begin with, but I've NEVER had a problem getting a big sound out of an Invader. Don't sell them short because of Tom Delonge. I think he's a no talent hack, and that's coming from a hack, so I oughta know!

Re: What do you think about the Duncan Invader?

I played an invader out of a BC rich warlock and thrashed the hell out of it. It was great!
