What do you think of this tone?

Re: What do you think of this tone?

there's no sound on the track as far as I can tell.......

Re: What do you think of this tone?

The clean and the lead tone are great! The reverb is a somewhat heavier on the lead tone than I would have mixed it but the guitar tones are beautiful.

What did you run the guitar through?

Re: What do you think of this tone?

Hmmmm...more (just a touch) dirt on the clean, and less dirt on the crunchy rhythm tones to make them a bit less fizzy would do more for me...and it would let the bass fill up more of the sound.
The lead tone is OK, it cuts throught nicely...bit thin for my tastes...needs less verb....tad too loud in the mix...

I wrote all of this as the track played, so it's as close as I can come to complete honesty.

Re: What do you think of this tone?

Well some honest review here
1)too much reverb on your clean and lead
2)Not enough definition on the crunch tone
3)Too much sag/saturation on your rythm tone
4)Clean needs more low midds to add some fullness
5)Lead tone needs some more character..Too "cliche" sounding...
The song is great and i liked the vocals...It sounds honest and direct...Sou yo do your art well IMHO...

Re: What do you think of this tone?

Thanks for all the honest responses. Out of curiosity what sort of amp do you think the various tones are? It doesnt have to be too specific something like "The lead sound Marshall-y" would be helpful

Re: What do you think of this tone?

The clean sounds like a Twin turned WAY down, or a solid state.
The crunch and lead tones sound tube-y, but they have a bit too much fizz for me...maybe a modeler?

Re: What do you think of this tone?

+1, the OD tone is very fizzy.. what did you use? that tone's quite like what one my guitarists gets from a boss ME-50

possibly less 2 notches less gain on the rhythm od, that'll help tame that fizz and add definition!

lead tone is ok!

You got close on what was used, congrats you have very good ears and thanks to all that listened and the responses. Ive read over time that basically everthing used on this track is crap and ive always liked the tone, so i wanted to make sure i wasnt tonedeaf or stupid or?

The track was written and played by me(the guitar at least), its called Choices Made off of my bands last album Passenger. The equipment used was:

Stock Epiphone LP standard bridge pickup>Crybaby GCB-95 wah for the lead>Crate GT212 2x12 combo>Fender Bassman 2x12 loaded with Vintage 30s. It was miked using a shure 57 on the crate and an old AKG mic on the Bassman. The cleans had a bit of reverb added but the rhythm distortion and lead are using the stock reverb unit on the Crate.
