What do you think of this?

Semi-hollowbody

New member
I have a semi-hollow Squier Starfire with HB102 pickups that I'm thinking of replacing with something different. Acoustically, the guitar is quite warm and fairly loud unamplified. Instead of using another humbucker, I thought "What about using some P-90's?" It might provide more articulation and enhance the tonal characteristics of the guitar.
I'm a little worried about noise however, but I understand that a set with reversed windings of bridge and neck cancels that out.
Let me know what you guys think. I'd appreciate any ideas, feedback or experience with P-90's or a similar sitution with a semi-hollowbody electric.

Thanks guys...

I'm going to try a P-90 neck in a semi-hollowbody. Others that have tried it seem to really like them.

if you're worried about the hum, i would go for either a set of GFS Dream 90's are Mean 90's. Theyre 100% single coil in humbucker housing, but have alot less hum then say, a phat cat. plus, they only cost about $30 a piece, and they sound AWESOME. i really recommend checking them out.

also, another alternative is the gibson P94's. they wont be as bright and sensitive as an authentic P90, but since theyre 4 conductor pickups, you can wire them in parallel, which will bring you REALLY close to that tone.

and as far as P90's go in semi hollowbody electrics.
