Re: what does a slow gear do?

I have no idea what you're talking about, but my hands are in slow gear when I play guitar. :)

Re: what does a slow gear do?

the boss Slow Gear pedal. Ive seen them go for 300 on ebay and wanna know what the deal is.

Re: what does a slow gear do?

it was a pedal made by Boss. It 'fades in' the notes, like if you pick with the volume down, and turn it up after it is picked. The Boss version is available on every Boss multi-effect. It is a really fun effect to play with (if you pick harder, it would take longer to fade in). The Line6 DL4 can mimic this too with its 'swell echo' if you set the knobs right.

The price has more to do with the rarity than its 'exotic' effect it produces. Guyatone makes a version of it as well- less than $100.

Re: what does a slow gear do?

Thanks, i understand the price being what it is because it is not made anymore and is rare. I have seen the byoc version and was wondering what it did.

Mincer described it well. It's basically a volume swell...a great effect, I've heard it used in great context before. I've messed around w/it and it seems very useable in certain situations, I have it on my GT-8.

So does Behringer !

They have a clone (not out yet) that was part og the NAMM show a few weeks ago ! Can't remember what they call it though :eek13:

Re: what does a slow gear do?

They probably call it the Behringer Slow Gear and use the same design for the box that Boss used to.

Re: what does a slow gear do?

I built a Slow Gear sometime ago, it's a great little box.
It may seen simple but it takes some serious time to set it up right.
It's a volume swell just like when you use the volume pot on your guitar, if you use it with a delay pedal and spend sometime tweaking them you can sound like a whale, a dolphin, a violin a cello.
It's really cool.
General Guitar Gadgets has the schematic for it.
Not the kind of pedal I would use everytime, but it's great when you want to fool around discovering new sounds and enjoying yourself, if you can get your hands on a Volume Swell at a decent price be sure to at least try it out, just remember, it's NOT an easy to work with box, takes sometime to figure out how he works.
