what gauge for C# tuning?

today i went and bought a pack of ernie ball not even slinky's 12-56 gauge for my les paul. im gonna be using C# tuning with the guitar and need to know if this would be the right gauge for it. i usually use ernie ball hybrid slinky's 9-46 in standard on all of my guitars. would this be good for it?

thanks :)

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

I use that gauge and tune a whole step down. Don't see why an extra half step would be a problem.

If you like it tight, you could always just buy a 7-string set and use the bottom 6.

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

well i would buy a 7 string but i dont got that money right now :D

but i do have one guitar that makes me feel like low end riffage!! plus, im gonna be getting a sh-6 for bridge and need the clarity for that, as well as the low strings :D

if i got a 7, i'd use it normally and play DT stuff!!!

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

I meant you could always just buy a set of 7-string strings, not an entire new guitar!

But the 12-56s should do ya just fine.

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

I use 11-54 in D and drop C, it'll work fine.

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

ok

alright then!!!!

give me a few days and i'll unleash the metal riffage upon you all!!!! :)

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

dude, i love the newer sabbath stuff (master of reality, sabotage, never say die, sabbath bloody sabbath) and they're ALL tuned to a C#. i'm always detuned to it and i have ultra-slinkys or whatever (8-36) and i experienced no troubles with them.

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

8-36!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

damn, i used to use 8-38

thats rewally light!!

anyways, i put em on the guitar.

those are really heavy strings, even for C#!!!! but the 56 is usuallyt the standard B for a 7 string, so... :D

i'll do a clip of them, as well as the new duncan distortion in it

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

I use 10-56,thin highs/heavy bottom (I believe those are the correct gauge numbers). I have them on my SG which is tuned to Drop C (CGCFAD). I had it up to C# before and it worked for me.

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

cool thing is i can go from C# to B no problem, so i can do those 7 strings songs.....

..without the high E

but it's cool playing DT's "as i am" now

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

I read that Iommi resorted to this tuning and super light strings because he had injured his right hand fingertips and needed a way to bend strings. Of course, this allowed him to keep playing and gave him his own unique tone. What I'm wondering is why so many guys are now using this technique and what they like about it...just curious.

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

there is a type of strings made especially for de-tuning ..........they are called X Rockers. They come in C C# and i think D and Dd. I use the C# on one of my detuned guitars. go check them out

i know, i was implying since i casn go from C# standard and B standard meaning that C is in the middle there that it's now fun playing it.

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

I use D'addario Jazz Lights 13-56 and tune down two steps to C. That feels slightly stiffer than 10s in standard 440 and gives me awesome heavy tones.

Re: what gauge for C# tuning?

I use D'Addario Jazz Lights 12-52 w/ wound G.

Very comfortable for me, and I use just about every tuning imaginable (usually the lower tunings)

For the past month, I've been tuned to dropped A (AEADGB). Still have great action without the floppy, bringing home the doom.
