i pretty much do it all aside from paint. i'm too picky about paint so i let a pro do that.

Trained Luthier, take a wild guess ;)

Some of you guys I know about. Just trying to get an ideal of where the forum stands.

Re: What guitar building category do you fit into?

Not sure where I'd fit in. I can build 'em from parts but not necessarily kits because I get the parts from different places, with my own ideas in mind. Finish work is so-so, needs improvement. I can wire them up easily enough, no problems there. Definitely not a luthier. I probably fit with what Mike choose. Mike, what did you vote?

Accessories. I change pickups, pots, caps and various hardware quite happily but I never mess with woodwork, finishing etc.

Re: What guitar building category do you fit into?

I would build my own guitar, but unfortunately I don't have enough dough.

same for me, except i also do not have the skill. so i guess acessories.

Re: What guitar building category do you fit into?

I have recently started making my own pickups. as for making guitars from the ground up....I dont have those skills.

Re: What guitar building category do you fit into?

Pickup making, fretwork, and nutwork are pretty much all that I have no experience with (the latter two because of a lack of tools). However, I prefer to assemble from parts. I can still have everything exactly how I like it, and I don't have to worry about screwing it up. Finishing I do myself.

Re: What guitar building category do you fit into?

Let's see... I've done Inlay work, Some fret work,But I don't have all the tool's to do a full fret job ( But soon I will) I cut my own nuts. I unsuccessfully removed my 1st fretboard last week. made it all the way to the 3rd fret clean. (Anybody need a J-bass neck sans fretboard and truss rod?) Then I discovered the big glob of glue in the Truss rod channel by the 3rd fret that caused the rod to bindup. I'm also a lunatic with a solder iron. I've modded and built a few stomp boxes. I've recapped all my amps and I'm building a custom amp now.:D And I almost forgot... I 've painted a few guitars in my time.:laugh2: Just finished Jeff_H's guitar for him.

Anything from and including a build, fretwork, inlays, some finishing. Pretty much everything!

Yep, I could not let you have all of the fun. Plus I like getting new tools.

Re: What guitar building category do you fit into?

Like Erik, I chose "Kits" although that doesn't really describe spec'ing a neck & body, designing the headstock, finding various parts in various places, and suffering down the long & painful learning curve of nitro finishing ;)

Re: What guitar building category do you fit into?

I just finished the design of my first guitar. I'm also a maniac with a soldering iron, I do all kinds of repairs, I can foat a floyd like nobody's business and I'm working on my finishing. I like doing mods too...

EDIT: I can make a grungy old Floyd or pretty much any bridge look, play and smell like new, right down to freshly blackend brass and steel parts :)

Re: What guitar building category do you fit into?

i collect parts. new and used (sometimes broken also and fix them).
but only strats so far

i voted for kits, but never bought a complete kit
