What guitar to get .. See specs

Hey guys.. I'm going to start a band and I currently have a Strat that I'm going to stick some active singles in.. Probably the live wires / classic in the guitar, and It will be a good guitar to play live, but I need one other.. and I want it to be a Gibson like guitar.. I'm thinking of either a Flying V faded, or something like that as I don't want to spend more than 800 bucks new or used.. and I see a lot of good Gibson's used for that amount or less such as Studio's, etc.. I don't care about looks.. Just functionality and tone.. and I care about necks being straight, and frets being big enough, etc.. I'm looking at the Faded series because they rock for the money.. I've played the V faded new and the SG and I loved them both for tone, and think they would really shine with a set of 59's or some dimarzio's.. etc.. Whatever your suggestion is, the guitar should have a set neck, be made in either the US or Japan, as they are the only two countries that make guitars that I like for the most part.. I prefer set necks or neck thru's with Gibson scales and with no trem.. That said, I'm looking at the Jackson DKMGT with EMG's of which I'd take out and sell and replace maybe.. as I like the fixed bridge, and love the Japanese quality and the neck, weight of the guitar, sustain of the guitar with the string thru bridge, etc.. Looks, etc.. What to get? HELP?
Also, what tube amp would you folks recommend to play small gigs and record with ? I need something that I can buy used under say 500 bucks.. Something that is loud enough for small gigs up to say 200 people in size.. I could potentially play at a comedy club / jam place here that draws up to 200 people regularyly, but also has a PA.. I just like to have enough Stage volume and be able to crank the amp for post amp distortion, etc. Anyone used the Vox amps with the POST amp tube, the immulating amps that have like 12 different amp types, and an attenuater built in, etc.. I thought about it with a 50 watt power section and two 12" speakers.. You can turn it down to one amp if you want, and it has some cool features.. I played one and thought it sounded 98% as good as most tube amps..

Thanks in advance..

i have to say check out gibson studios - les pauls, firebirds, play every one you can and the right one for you will make itself known :)

as for the amp, i like my marshall DSL401 just fine for what you're asking for!

Get a Gibson Special (like Imp said) and a used Sovtek Mig 50.

You'll rock the hell out of everyone in your path with a minimal investment.

What about an ESP Eclipse? As for an amp, the Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12 will cover plenty of ground and can be found used in your price range.

You just described these two:

Big +1 for the VM Les Paul. That is the perfect Gibson if you're on a budget.

I'd personally go with a Fender HRD for an amp. It will do everything you ask, and if you outgrow it later, it will hold its value.
