What happened to the Antiquity '50s Series? (Ant I)

For those in the know, why does the 60's Surfer have a grey bobbin?- as the Ant II was designed to recreate a Fender pup from the first half of the 60's (black bobbin era)

Secondly- are the pole pieces bevelled on either the Ant I or II?

Thanks

Edit- original post concerned availability of Ant Mk I.

Nope, pole pieces are not bevelled on the Ant I.

isn't bevelling strictly a feature of some Fender pups only? like the 57/62...

Sets of the Ant I Texas Hots and the Ant II Surfers are both very much available...

Hmm, thanks for that- it seems that my Aussie dealer provided me with a bit of misinformation. Lew, any thoughts on the non-period correct grey bobbin? Also, are the slugs in your Surfers bevelled in the same way as your vintage Strat?

Well, the pickups in my '63 Strat are original and I'm almost sure they have gray bottems. I might be wrong...but I've had that guitar since the mid 70's and I'm pretty sure they're gray. Haven't looked at them in quite a while though.

However, here is a set of pickups on Ebay that the guy claims are original '65 Strat pickups. http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Vintag...101754886QQcategoryZ47069QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And here's a set the guy claims are from 1961 http://cgi.ebay.com/1961-VINTAGE-FE...097777147QQcategoryZ47069QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It would appear that Strat pickups from '61 were black...but perhaps from '63 on they had gray bottems? Aren't the Surfers designed to replicate a '62 Strat pickup? If Seymour says that's what they looked like in '62 I'd assume he's right.

According to a number of sources, the bobbins were black until 1965 when they switched to the light grey that's shown in the auction. Sometime in '68 they were changed again to a slightly darker grey (that's replicated on the Fender CS '69 pups.) Seems that the grey bobbins on Surfers are a bit out of place.

Not according to the old blurb:

Seymour Duncan-

"The ‘60s Surfer™ pickup is a replica of the 1964 Strat® pickup that made plenty of surf music for the Chantays and the Belaires. The detail in this pickup is perfect for restoring old and updating newer instruments for sounds of the past. A Custom Bridge version is also available for those players needing more output from the bridge position. Also, an RW/RP version is available for the middle position."
