What happens to the pickups you exchange??

This goes for both Duncan and Dimarzio I guess. What do they do with them?? Cut the stripped ends off, repackage and send back out?? Anyone know??

Just out of curiousity. I usually nail what I want on the first try or buy used pickups but I know people that go through like 10 pickups exchanging them before they settle.

My guess is they just fix anything minor and them send them out... seems like the most obvious thing to do.

Urban Legend has it they get sold off in a Duncan "sidewalk sale" once a year with overstocked & discontinued items...

It happens so infrequently that I just keep 'em and sell 'em as used. Lew

I am told they get recycled. My assumtion on this would be that baseplates and perhaps bobbins may get re-used in new pickups but I'm not sure exactly what they mean by re-cycled.

I don't know how to replace a 4-conductor wire on a pickup, but I imagine it wouldn't be that hard. That would be the main flaw with a used pup, right?

Cool, 'cause magnets, baseplates, slug pieces, the spacer inside (especially them maple ones) should not be wasted.
