What is all this stuff?? Sorry for the stupid question, but I want to know what it all is and what it all does.

LOL! That's John Petrucci's rack setup! I was gonna use that as my avatar, too.
I think there's a list of what it is on johnpetrucci.com, but from here I can identify
- Three Boogie Mk.IIC+ heads
- a rack tuner
- an Eventide harmonizer
- A dunlop Crybaby rack unit
- Furman power conditioner
- Three switcher units (MIX, GCX, and MESA)
- four TC Electronics processors (looks like 2 Gforces and 2 2290's)
- some sort of interface unit
- another Furman unit

I wouldn't personnaly want that... I'm a simple kinda guy with my gear... that's way too much for me... I guess I'll be able to buy a house instead.... :dance: :laugh2:

Well, I don't think I would go to that extreme with my own setup, but I sure would like to have something similar to it.

Reminds me of my mini-rack. Here's a pic of mine. I can dial in just about any sound with this beast. From the bottom: Hartke Bass amp (I play bass too), VHT 2502 power amp, Egnater Ie4 preamp (4 channels of bliss - now use 2 Randall RM4 preamps), MXR 126 Analog Flanger, Chandler stereo echo, BK Butler Real Tube Spring reverb, Rockman stereo chorus, Rockman stereo echo, Tuner, power conditioner, and on top... my favorite...Roland Space Echo analog tape echo.

If I ever use something like that someone please kill me. If that is John's rack, he has gone overboard. I used to hear him sitting down playing through a little Rockman into some small speakers and he was amazing, that is overkill and then some IMO. What the hell though to each his own, the Boogies are certainly cool!

He's got an awfull lot of stuff running in that rack.
I got the pic off of DT's website so I assume it really was John's setup.Wattage said:

uh, word of advice:
I think everyone playing gigs should have backups in case the unforseen happens: guitar not working, amp dies...

Actually John's rack used to be about four times that size... it mainly had a few more FX processors, as well as Boogie pre and power amps (Triaxis, Simul 2:90, etc) and racked-up Dual Recs.
When Steve Vai was with DLR his rack was the most massive I'v ever seen... http://www.vai.com/Machines/livegear_whitesnake.html
...and that's ALL THE SAME RIG. That monstrosity actually produced SOUND! Can you imagine looking for a bad cable or a loose connection in that thing?

Yeah it is not even as bad as those I have seen during the eighties and nineties :laugh2:
Not that it sounds bad...but for normal people that has to haul their own gear and have no techs, this is not a practical setup.
Eventhough I have no trouble failing in dialing in sounds or service it, I am not going to get a big rack-rig again.
Unless somebody else gets to haul it around :evil:

Oh a NASA rig! Basically a guitar plugged into a bowl of tonesucking spaghetti, back out to his speakers. Nice. I'd take Hawkman's setup first.
Petrucci should line his rack with Christmas lights, so you can see the Mesa's among
the digital readouts. :fing2:
