Re: What is the best d.pedal???

My digitech Metal Master hasn't failed me yet, runs about 100 bucks. The Ibanez Tube Screamer is badass also.

Re: What is the best d.pedal???

boss metal zone is awesome and you can pick one up used for around $35. IMO, boss tends to have a better sound than digitech.

BBE crusher is another nice pedal. it has a nice thick metal sound, and chords and solos sound so meaty and articulate. crusher is only like $79 new most places and even cheaper on ebay. you should really check out this pedal.

it also depends on what kind of amp you're running these through. if you're running them through a solid state, it probably won't sound that great. if you're using an articulate tube amp, you're going to get some unbelievable tone. i've gotten a lot of compliments with the bbe crusher.

if you want a pedal for a solid state or pa system or direct recording, you might want to get your hands on a tech 21 classic. those things are awesome and worth every penny of the relatively high price tag.

The best distortion pedal is not an easy question to answer at all...

I've owned tons and tried even more, but I'm still on my search for the perfect one.

I just bought a Seymour Duncan Lava Box, it isn't here yet, but I've got big expectations from it. I don't think SD will let me down!

sounds cool. i've been looking at that one lately, but am a little skeptical. i was pretty disappointed with the SD twin tube classic. it sounded muddy to me and the drive was kind of dry. i personally preferred the vox bulldog over that one. let us know what it sounds like or post some clips if you can.

Re: What is the best d.pedal???

perfect example of different strokes for different folks.

i thought the twin tube was pretty good and the vox was god awful

i'm right there with ya on the views of the Twin Tube classic... wasn't a fan of that one.

I'll definitely report back after I jam on the lava box

So far I can say the best Distortion pedal is NOT one of the following pedals (IMO):
ProCo RAT
EHX Metal Muff
MXR Dime Distortion
BOSS DS-1
BOSS DS-2
BOSS Metal Zone
BOSS Hyper Metal
Digitech Distortion Factory

also not a huge fan of these overdrives:
Ibanez TS-7 and TS-9
MXR Zakk Wylde
Twin Tube Classic

Re: What is the best d.pedal???

Dude there are so many different types of Distortion pedals.
you can group them in
a)price
b)type (like tube distortion or transistor)
c)As boostin or distortion to clean channel style!
d)Drive character
So ask yourself what qualities you need!
Do you have money for a Tube distortion unit?Or do you need a tube distortion? If yes...rocktron silver Dragon and Damage Control Solid metal is your ally!
If you need a well made preamp and Distortion pedal..Choose on eof the AMT pedals..For Engl sound "du hast" ,for mArshall type of gain "Fatal Tube" ,for a great variety "extreme" etc.
Boss MetalZone works well with tube amps...But it's lacking cgaracter if you own a ss amp etc...
Do you play 7 or more stringed guitars? If your answer is yes ,you need a Distortion pedal with mire control oprions like tightness or depth..The Bass response have to get controled etc....

Re: What is the best d.pedal???

The metal zone is one of the worst sounding pedals around, and I usually like boss products.

Re: What is the best d.pedal???

I have 25 distortion pedals, and some of my favorites include

Keeley 3-Way RAT
Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion
Boss BD-2

After I got that DS-1 you sold me back from Stratdeluxer it sounded amazing. It's now my go-to pedal for distortion. They sound very harsh and buzzy stock though, definitely a must mod pedal. I might one day look into a RAT as an optional distortion, I like how they have versatility as a boost/overdrive as well. I've been amazed this year at finding how many of my favorite classic rock tones were created from a RAT.

bullchet! the metal muff is awesome. i don't know what you used it with, but i've used my metal muff on quite a number of quality tube amps to get a super sound. i can even get a more or less bluesy type overdriven tone with it although it's not that versatile. it was made to rock.

there are actually three versions of that pedal. there's the nano, the one with top boost switch, and another with the top boost button. the one with the top boost button sounds better than the others i think. as far as i know, the circuitry is a little different and it actually has better tone. i don't know, but i love the metal muff pedal.

Re: What is the best d.pedal???

damage control demonizer. solid metal is also pretty good, but i haven't played with it long enough to tell. boss md2 is not quite for metal, despite the hype.
