What is the best humbucker for warm, jazzy cleans?

Any brand works.

I'm using an Agile LP copy, by the way, so I'm guessing some usual suspects (Air Norton) would be too muddy and dark for the neck position.

I would appreciate any responses.

If a mean warm, i would recommend APH II or Seth/Antiquities. For clear comping i would recommend the Jazz neck or PGn

Yeh, usually people say dont be mislead by the name Jazz..but in this case I think it fits.
+1 for the Jazz

I think Bare Knuckle Mules w/ Alnico III or IV (7K neck, 8.4K bridge), or Stormy Mondays w/ Alnico II (~6.9K neck, 7.4K bridge) would sound great in that LP.

Seymour Duncan Seth Lovers
Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates
Bare Knuckle Mules

i have les paul and play lots of jazz comping and chord melodies and use duncan jazz in neck like it alot but wish it was a little warmer but good pup.

I'd go either with the APH-1 for those big, warm mids; or with the Jazz which has just a touch less mid warmth but a little more air on top.

If you go for a no load tone pot, you can get a little more top end from the APH-1 and that would work fine.

Thanks, guys. I'm seriously considering buying the Jazz neck.

Is the Jazz a pup that you would characterize as "smooth"?

I'm looking for an articulate, smooth tone with the warmth of a humbucker (I'm concerned that the Jazz will sound like a strat pickup in the neck position).

The Jazz is definitely smooth, tight, and has great articulation. Because it's Alnico 5, it won't be wooly or soft in the bass like A2 might be (Seth/APII) I don't hear the Jazz as bright, but balanced across all the frequencies.

My favorite neck pickup is actually the Jazz Bridge, because it's right in between a Jazz n and 59n. Even though it's a bridge pickup, it's still in the range of most neck pickups, and it's beautiful sounding.

I always say the same thing about the Jazz B model....it's one of the best purchases you can make because it sounds really good in any position in any guitar. It's great in a LP neck position and also a great HSS strat humbucker.

The closest to what Wes Montgomery used would be a Duncan 59B used as a neck pickup...but I would use the 59N for an even clearer tone. The 59B would be exactly like the pickup Wes used though because in those days Gibson didn't calibrate thier neck and bridge pickups and used the same 8.2K alnico 5 humbucker for both neck and bridge positions.

The Jazz neck would be a good choice too.

Or the PGn.

Couldn't go wrong with a Seth Lover or Antiquity either.
