I'd have to go with an old Fender Tweed amp, of any variety. Dime the controls, perhaps add a fuzzbox, and those things are gnarly little buggers. They spit, snarl, whine, yelp, and whatever else.

When I first started this thread I was wondering if anyone would pick a Fender. They've been a favorite of punk music for years.

yea, they are super cool amps. Most Fenders are much too clean to be pissed off in nature, but the tweeds are a different animal. Yea, they dont have the crushing volume of newer higher gain stuff, but the character of their dimed sound is super pissed off and aggressive.

Another thing I've been surprised about is that in all the threads on the various forums Marshall has only been mentioned twice.... one Superlead and one JCM900. Aside from the guys saying 'mic a pignose' it's been mostly Rectifiers and Rectifier sound alikes (Ubershall, Framus, ect), plus the odd VHT.

You'd figure that the JTM45 and JCM800 would atleast get honourable mentions.

Diezel Herbert or the old Marshall Valvestates, the 8100 in particular. Through a 4x12 those things just crush! Almost bought one last year from the local GC.

Fender amps are GREAT. If you get a bassman than you have that really nice thick but pure clean tone, PERFECT for ska, and you throw a good pedal and front and WOAH!! It blows you away with all the bawls it has!!

Yeah the Bassman is pretty sweet in all of it's various incarnations. Mine sounds great but i can tell it misses the 4x12 i left in Salt Lake City...

My crate sounds ticked off all the time.........I mean it sounds like crap. I would be pissed off if I sounded like my amp too. But it has some pretty extreme grungy distortion to it. Kinda strange but ya gotta love it.

****!! I was just on e-bay looking at all the Bassman heads. I want one sooooooooooooooooooo bad. Particularly a blackface with the switches. 50W or 100W, Blackface or Silverface, they're soooooooooooooooooo amazing. I must get one!!!! **** money, where are you???


I'd hgave to say, a Bassman with the 1 Bassman jumpered to the 2 guitar input and the signal chain plugged into the 1 guitar input with both the bright and deep switches on, is a sublime clean tone, and with a good distortion driving it, RUDE AS HELL!! Pissed off, mean, and tons of balls!!!:32::32::32::32::32::32::32::32::32:

That King's X clip's guitar tone sounds really pissed off. Even more so than in the album. That's a Rectifier?
