What is this chord structure?

Re: What is this chord structure?

The way I have been playing it in what I'm working on is this little finger picking rhythm that leads into the same thing as a chord

9------
9------
9------
x------
x------
x------

10---
10---
9----
x----
x----
x----

12

9
x
x
x

Something of that nature.

Re: What is this chord structure?

It's the chord used for Only Women Bleed but in a different key. It's some type of A.

Agreed .... it's just an A without a 3. Maybe that is what Marc called an A5.

It's easy to see if played E12, xB, G14, D14

It becomes an Asus4 if you play it in the orginal position, mute the fat E string, and play the A and D strings open. The open D is the 4th.

Then again, It is also a perfectly good Esus4 like Marc and Kam said.

in that context I'd treat it as an E . if I was jamming on it I would probably treat the whole progression as an E major with some voice leading in it

Transpose that down to the first position:
2-----
2-----
2-----
x-----
x-----
x-----

3----
3----
2----
x----
x----
x----

5---
3---
2---
x---
x---
x---

And what you get is a Dmaj7, Dsus4, Dadd5(? not sure what to call this) progression.

I use this:
5---
3---
2---
x---
x---
x---
for that Pete Townsend song, Rough Boys.

So, for me this is that same chord progression in A.

Re: What is this chord structure?

Just goes to show how crazy music is, man. Knowing my own style of playing, if I were playing those chords then the song (read: not necessarily that three chord passage alone) would probably be in B minor.

So there ya go. B minor, E major or A. That's all cleared up. :p

In the context given and knowing that it's not me playing it, I would be inclined to agree with Mojo; that it's in A.

Re: What is this chord structure?

When I got home from work and grabbed a guitar

In the progression of the 3 chords it sounds like a

A major-B minor7-C# minor7 progression to me.
