What is this noise? How can I make it?

Watch the silly vid, right at 2:58-2:59 there is this whistle/feedbackish kind of sound... it goes low to high....any clues for me as how to duplicate it?
I am pretty sure it's Steve Clark's guitar

I'm not sure if it's anything more than sliding a note all the way up.

But, there's also the technique of using your right index finger to either fret a note or lightly find a harmonic node above where you're playing.

Re: What is this noise? How can I make it?

It just sounds like a harmonic overtone coming through the original note. I love it when that happens. I believe Phil Collen's current model Jackson (PC-1) has a switch that does this upon demand (watch his demo on the Jackson website), but you can achieve it without any electronic trickery. Try adding a lot of mids to your eq. With your lead tone on, hold a note with a little vibrato until you hear it become a harmonic. It depends on so many things - intonation, pickups, eq, string action/height - sometimes it "just happens" by good fortune, and you can't make it happen again. Good luck!

Thats what I thought it may be... thanks for the input guys.

Re: What is this noise? How can I make it?

i've had simular sounds come thru my screaming loud amps just by surprise... sometimes it's a quick bit of a harmonic from releasing a fretted note and your finger causes a harmonic by accident... it could also be a pick harmonic....

to get sounds like that i'll play a note and then with my strumming hand will tap a harmonic 7 or 12 frets ahead of the note i fret and then bend it up... but mostly it's easier to try a pick harmonic first
