What is up with the Jeff Loomis pickup?

I bought a brand new Jeff Loomis signature pickup and right off the bat it's too wide for the pickup ring (the EMG 57 fit in there just fine). No problem, I'll just waste my time sanding it till it fits. Then I notice it barely fits into the cutout of the body, there wasn't any play whatsoever. Never had this issue before and I'm thinking what else is going to go wrong. Well, I'm adjusting the height screws and they bottom out long before the pickup is anywhere near the strings. How the f__k am I suppose to get the pickup any closer to the strings? This has never happened to me before, so what am I missing?

haha yeah this just came up in a recent topic. that Loomis blackout bridge hummer is one of the weirdest outliers in the SD catalog. for what possible reason could it need to be so long? if it didn't sound so hot I'd have ditched it long ago, but what a slick pupper it ended up being

I've had installs where I had to use a Dremel to trim 1/4" to 1/2" off the adjustment screws. It's not unheard of.

it's not the screws, it's the pickup itself. the Loomis bridge is longer than any trembucker i've encountered. had to dremel the inside of my mounting ring to get it to fit thru. i guess Duncan expects everyone to be wood mounting this model, but I prefer rings. the thing doesn't even fit in the trembucker mounting ring included with one of their other TB models! it's such a strange outlier.

what's your point? it's still a bizarre oddity that absolutely should include a mounting ring (like the majority of their TBs) since, apparently, literally nobody on the market makes one appropriate.

hmmm nah, it seems more like your point is to downplay the fact it's a weird pickup model which should include a mounting ring (as SD does with most, if not all, TBs) since no mounting ring manufacturer I've found makes a compatible one.

BTW, I agree, if it is a weird shape, a ring should be included. Unless it is stated that it is only for direct mount.
