I went ahead and voted even though everyone knew what I would vote for. The DD has the most insane harmonics and tight low end crunch all the while being extremely versatile. If you want more, just read some of my other Distortion threads. Perhaps I should resurrect the Church of the Distortion thread for those who have yet to read the gospel.

i like the sdd best of those three. great crunch and a wailing lead tone that stays tight for palm muting. the 500t sounds grainy to me, the dsd is nice but i find its a one trick pony and sometimes doesnt have the clarity that id like

dimarzio EVO! i just tried one through my amp and was floored!
I stayed away from it because the alien plays one and it was supposed to be designed for him but really sounds nothing like him :laugh2:

Depends on the sound I'm after.....I like both the Super Distortion and the Duncan Distortion.

You guys know that none of those mentioned are actually producing any real distortion...right? To call a pickup a Distortion or Super Distortion is just a marketing thing. In fact, there are hotter pickups than the ones mentioned, but even hotter pickups are not necessarily distorted sounding. It's the amp that distorts. Lew

yeah i was told that the pup just sends extra millivolts to the amps pre section and that in turn creates more gain?

Actually i prefer a Duncan JB or a Dimarzio Evolution to those mentioned... the Jb has a tight bottom, slightly pulled mids and a delicious crunch factor thats great for all kind of rock music and the Evo had full but not overpowering mids, tighter bass and a bright and focussed (but still smooth) top.

I picked the Dimarzio Super D but, My favorite would be the Bill lawrence XL-500. I use a XL-500 and love it but, when I added the EMG SPC it got even sicker!!!!!!!!!

I still think the JB is the best pickup on the market. It does great distortion and awesome clean tones. I think their should be a SD JB in the Smithsonian Institute in their musical instruments section. :smoker:

Dsd: fat but not muddy, plenty of power, great sound for both rhytm and leads.
The duncan sound great to, but it´s something about the dimarzio that i love...

Of all the high output humbuckers I think the Invader is my favorite so far.

For the bridge, a Lawrence X500L or the Dimarzio X2N both give you better p-up distortion than the ones you listed.

...and the Invader eats alive both

*note: it sounds best in light wood bodies (alder, ash, etc) and fits some mahogany axes as well (V, SG) but I would not recommend in Les Pauls (although it sounds good in some LPs)

Custom. If you have a high gain amp (most interested in brewtality do), the slightly lower output of the Custom keeps things nice and tight. :burnout:

Not If you use an EMG SPC with your XL-500. The Invader is great for rythms
but, I find it is REALLY LACKING definition for leads.
