What JCM900 model is this ?

Re: What JCM900 model is this ?

MKIII dual master lead combo..rarest and best sounding of the 900s by far.

speaking of mkiii's - this is at my local sam ash. looks killer in green tolex. head was going for $599, but said would make deal. Cab was like 4 bones though, and would be shame to split them up.

played through it the other day and sounded great! the 2nd volume knob didn't seem to do anything though, and I thought they were supposed to cascade into one another. I figured a foot switch may be necessary to activate the other volume pot.

hope you get it and dig it!

you need to have a footswitch to use channel A otherwise B is the volume.

all it does is give you two different volume levels. they are not interactive

Re: What JCM900 model is this ?

i had a mkIII 100watter 1x12. nice amp. dirty fun.
Mine had a g12h100 rather than g12t75s...i think the 2x12 has g12t75s - either way you'll have a nice heavy ply cab and good speakers.
They do get pretty hot tho, so keep the power tubes well ventilated and keep a spare set of fuses for gigs.
...secret trick - jumper the fx send and return and dial in the sound you like with the level control. dont ask me why this sounds better than just bypassing it, but it does. :)

Re: What JCM900 model is this ?

There issome weirdness with the 900s, some have 5881s, some EL34s, as at the time the supply of reliable, good sounding el34s was very low.same reason Marshall sent 6550 equpped 800s to the states for the majority of its lifetime.

The general theory is the earliest 900s all had el34s and 5881s started to show up a year later. However my Dual Reverb head, the first my local shop got in after the amps were introduced had 5881s....one reason I hated that amp with a passion.

Re: What JCM900 model is this ?

I have a 4502 Dual Reverb model. I bought it used in like 92 maybe 93. It was my main gigging amp for years. These tend to get a bad wrap but I have had nothing but positive experiences with it. The only negative about it is the loop. It was difficult dinding effects that I could run into the loop and not kill the tone. I used it last October at an outside gig and decided to use my board that I typically use with my Fender and ran it straight in. The board had chorus, delay, OD, wah & tuner and it worked great! I've always liked the cleans I got with this amp and the drive is very Marshally so it worked really well. The amp I have is an EL34 model so it must be an early model. These are usually 6550 tubes I think, but I've never really had any major issues with it. Sounds good versatile with two switchable channels and it takes either single coils or humbuckers well.

In addition to this, the MKIII came only with EL34's.

OP, if you snag it, take it to a tech for a checkup. Possibly have the filter caps changed. It's over 20 years old so it'll be due if they've never been changed.
