What kind of bridge gives more sustain?

Re: What kind of bridge gives more sustain?

prob the first one. Screws directly to the body.

I have several guitars with a set up like the second and they sustain fine.. That two tone is gorgeous. How much are those??

I think their tune o's run around $45. Pinto could give you a better idea on that. Problem is, if you kind find one in stock and have to order it, Expect to wait over a year to get it.

I've used the first one on two Teles in the past and it worked fine.
You do need to use the saddle cam lock on the side for better sustain.
Still, I would have liked Schaller to make a string through version compatible
with standard Tele bridge routing and a plate to mount the Tele bridge pickup.

The second one is the age old TOM that Schaller has been making for
Gibson since day dot, no problems with sustain there.

However, body wood will always have the last say in how well
a guitar sustains.

probably the bridge with the least moving parts and a solid direct coupling/contact with the body.

Are you kidding?? Why?

Mh...no word on wrap around?
I like very much the idea...

I've got 2 guitars with the Schaller 455 wraparound.

I did have another, but after dinking with it- I discovered that the stock (non-adjustable) wraparound tailpiece sounded better, louder and intonated fine.

One of my guitars needs to have the individual saddle adjustment- the other, I'm not so sure about. If I ever come across an early 60s compensated wraparound tailpiece, I'll probably swap the Schaller out, just to see what works best.

After my experience with my LP Special, I'd be willing to bet the adjustable saddles "rob tone." Do they sound good? Yes. Do they intonate well? Yes. But when you compare resonance, "sustain," and tone with a non-adjustable wraparound- it's not really close.

Which leads to how much "sustain" do you really need. Unless your guitar is a dead hunk 'o wood, decent hardware will do you fine.
