What kind of strings do you use?

Can you buy electric guitar strings where the 3rd string (g in standard) is wound, like on acoustics?
I don't really know off hand, but you might want to try nickle wound accustic strings.

Myself, I used Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies 9-46 for my electrics, and medium gauge Ernie Ball nickle wound electric strings on my accustic. Ernie Ball's strings are cheap (I buy two or three sets a week), and on the accustic I like to minimize the frip sound when I slide up and down the frets.

I spend a lot of time at the coast and the air has a lot of salt, so I go with nickle on everything. Seems to resist corrosion the best.

Re: What kind of strings do you use?

I will only use DR Pure Blues ...

10-42 on all my guitars except the Jem, which is 9-42

Yeah, i'm pretty sure u can. Don't remember what brand though. Actually, I'm not quite sure they still make wound g-strings. But I heard it mentioned somewhere, and they do exist, or at least at one point in time they did.

Deam Markley 11-54. Great tone, long lasting and power everywhere.

And on the 7th day, God created 11-54, for 9's and 10's were the work of Satan, and caused much consternation amongst the Angels of Tone.

Amen...

Re: What kind of strings do you use?

I'm using D'Addario 12-52's (jazz lites) and they work for me. I use Elixer nanoweb 13's on my accoustic, have been doing so for years. After I run out of D'Addarios, I might go back to DR which were great strings for me. They felt really smoth.... the D'Addarios feel somewhat harsh, stiff, even brittle. Ernie Balls on the other hand felt too loose. I'm not a lead player though.

Re: What kind of strings do you use?

S.I.T. & GHS 11s for the 6 stringers, GHS (10-60) and Ernie Ball (11-72) for the 7s.

S.I.T. gives you both a plain 18 and a wound 20 in their 11 set.

The Dean Markley set 11-54 comes with two 3rd strings. One 18 plain and one 20 wound.

I feel redeemed. You just summed up PERFECTLY why I detest those two brands. I see D'Addario leading the poll and was gonna keep my trap shut. I ain't alone after all...

Am I right in guessing that you use Dean Markley's? I'm not a fan of them... they feel alright, but they break way too often. The ones with round cores were somewhat better...

Re: What kind of strings do you use?

I play metal and for many years I used thick stings and tuned low.... Now I am going back to standars 0.10 and standard tuning i guess... SOunds great if you ask me..... Just hear Opeth.,..

Anyone try Elixir Polywebs? I'm wondering if they're any good.
B string broke within 1 week, sounded and felt like plastic. I went back to Gibson Vintage Reissue and have broken one string since (in over a year).

Re: What kind of strings do you use?

im too lazy to recall the guages right now but on my acoustic bass i have elixir nanoweb electric strings(couldnt find acoustic 5 string), on my ibanez electric i got dean markely blue steel(must say my favorite). on my warlock i dont know they have the ones that it came with :laugh2: they arnt bad strings and i was going to put blue steels on it but the light blue whatever you call it on the edge of the strings doesnt go with the warlcok.

the ones that came with it have red on the edges and looks good on it can any1 tell me a bass string that had red on the edges? and what is that stuff called?

Re: What kind of strings do you use?

Well normally I just use 9-42 now.
Everytime I put some heavier strings the sound I like vanishes.....hmm
I like the clarity of 9's I guess, but if I tune down the heavier ones then I really dig those!
The clarity returns then....must be the scale, gotta try one of those bariton guitars one day, anyone tried one of the new G Lynch ones??

Yup, Dean Markley... I started out with some lessons from a shredding maniac named Jeff Loomis, and he talked me into the whole "Buy some 9's and play with the very tip of your Extra Heavy pick " philosophy. I broke a lot of strings back then, regardless of brandname.

Then an angel came to me in a mid-morning dream, and said, "Switch to 11s and play with a medium pick."

Problem solved. [
