Your basic keystone/tulip green plastic crap ass ones.

Gotoh makes locking Kluson Copies, and I think Grover does as well....

crap I should have been more specific, sorry guys. I mean Grover style modern metal tuners that will retrofit in a Gibson guitar without modification.

I don't think Grovers will fit those holes without modification. Those tuners never failed me.

They aren't bad at all. I guess I could live with them. I just always prefer grovers and such.

I guess it depends on what you are going with for that guitar. I thought they gave a certain bit of class to the design.

+1

Grovers will add a bit of sustain, though (more mass @ heasdtock = more sustain)... but not enough that I´d switch htm for it.... I personally don´t mind the Klusons and they´ve served me well...

Re: What kind of tuners are a direct replacement for gibson's?

Grover makes a vintage Gibson style tuner that I believe is a direct replacement.

They have the same rectangular shape to the gearbox and the plastic tulip buttons. But the gearbox is diecast like all the Grovers, as opposed to stamped steel like the original Gibson/Kluson. They look almost identical including the printing on the back, which says "Grover Deluxe" instead of "Gibson Deluxe".
I ordered some for my Epi '58 Flying V replica. I'll let you know if they're any good as soon as I install them.

Re: What kind of tuners are a direct replacement for gibson's?

I hated the plastic Kluson tuners that Gibson puts on some of their guitars. I took 'em out and had a pro tech put on some Sperzel locking and haven't looked back (holes have to be drilled, but its worth it to fit good tuners like Sperzel, Gotoh, Grover, Planet Waves etc.).
