I have an epiphone les paul std., and was wondering if there is any way I can find out what kind of wood it is made out of. If there is any one who can help me it would be appreciated. (Just want to try to know everything humanly possible about my guitar)
Epiphone says they're mahogany/alder (whatever the hell that means), but I have one that is all maple. Aside from removing the finish, I don't know any way to tell for sure.
I have 2 epi's that had broken necks and the necks look like they are maple.... One is a 2003 LP Standard and the other is a 2004 Exployer.... both had their headstocks smashed off and i reglued them... Someone once told me that Epiphone has been known to use alder for necks!!!! The Exployers neck is made of some really heavy hard maple but the LP i have is a light wood... made me wonder if it is alder! No Mahogany necks on these two.... Just like Fender years ago i'm sure they use any wood they can get their hands on.... no matter what the catalog says the model is made from...
